Url redirect problem - Can anyone advise?

Hello,

We're new to BC and have a redirection problem. If anyone has any advice on the below it would be appreciated.

The secenerio:

We've moved our site www.conceptstore.co.uk to BC and its servers.

Prior to the move we had a WP blog located at on our old server at www.conceptstore.co.uk/blog/

We wanted to keep the WP blog so we moved it to a new subdomain on our old server being blog.conceptstore.co.uk

We would like to redirect all urls for the old blog conceptstore.co.uk/blog to the new location being blog.conceptstore.co.uk

www.conceptstore.co.uk/blog/article_id_etc.html

redirects to

blog.concptstore.co.uk/article_id_etc.html

However we can't seem to do that becuase the domain name is hosted on BC whilst the subdomain is hosted at our old server.

Usually we'd use htaccess to achieve this but BC doesn't have the facility.

So far our attempts of achieving this inside BC admin have been unsuccesful as it won't allow us to redirect the domain conceptstore.co.uk/blog/ to an external url, only a page.

If anyone has any solution, tips, advice or even a workaround on how to achieve this, I would be grateful as all of our old links are now dead.

Hello Conceptstore,

You can still use htaccess in BC, you just have to upload this in the root folder. We have been using .htaccess for this kind of needs.

The other thing you can do is create an A-Record in BC and point this to your blog's IP address this way anyone who access blog.concptstore.co.uk would pull out the contents from there. So it's creating a sub-domain in BC that points to external server. All blog pages you have in BC use 301 redirect for each, this can be found in more options once you already in web page environment.

Hello Madonna,

We've incorporated teh htaccess file but noticed that it didn't work. Whats more other BC posts claim that htaccess doesn't work on the BC system. Is that true?

This is untrue.
Sorry Concept, you were given bad advise

Htaccess is something that works on apache servers. BC does not run on Apache, it is .NET and this does not run this file.

Thats what I thought??? - Woudl you have any suggestion as to how we can fix this problem? As it stands we're loosing all of our old links becuase BC can't handle a permenent "directory" redirect.

We've managed to come up with a very tedious solution.

In order to solve the problem above we have to manually input each url in the "URL Redirects" section of BC, one at a time.

It can't be done via the excel template upload option becuase for some reason BC won't allow it due to our old site structure, howver it does work manually.

If anyone has any better ideas, we'd appreciate it as we'll be typing out over 100m urls.
