Sidney Mitchell Feb 5, 2013 9:47 AM (in response to Rocbrook)Hi,
Thanks for the suggestions.
At the moment we do not have any short-term plans on extending our current gateway list. I will share this with our product team as a potential wishlist request.
For updates on new release and upcoming enhancements please view our BC Blog. - http://www.businesscatalyst.com/_blog/bc_blog

7. Re: Please add WePay and Stripe as payment gateways
TheBCMan Sep 3, 2013 4:00 AM (in response to Addison.Hall)You can build your own checkout process using the BC API, no one offers is as a "service" currently (hmmm idea).
But it possible to get the details of a users cart using the API and then process the order on your server whatever way you want if you must have it as an option.

Fueled Media Sep 26, 2013 6:35 PM (in response to Sidney Mitchell)The cost of existing merchant options for startups and small business are oftem prohibitive. Stripe would be a welcomed addition to the accepted payment gateways.

9. Re: Please add WePay and Stripe as payment gateways
WYZROCK DESIGNS Oct 9, 2013 1:35 PM (in response to Rocbrook)Stripe is needed on this system. I am losing jobs due to this not being a gateway on this system. It is frustrating that as a partner we pay a couple thousand dollars and when a new method of processing payments online that is growing enormously is available we are not heard by Adobe. Given a template response that they aren't planning on implementing any new gateways in the near future. May have to look at other CMS systems soon.

amgmarketing Oct 11, 2013 8:38 AM (in response to WYZROCK DESIGNS)I agree with WYZROCK Designs and everyone else in this post. and all the people who haven't learned about stripe yet who will more than likely continue to agree with everyone, except adobe on this.
Adobe, keep up with what is going on in the real world, not just behind the adobe wall. Integrate Stripe.

11. Re: Please add WePay and Stripe as payment gateways
TheBCMan Oct 13, 2013 11:49 PM (in response to amgmarketing)There is a reason the founder of BC left Adobe 3 months after being aquired, your point above being the main one.
With that said, Stripe is so easy to develop for.

12. Re: Please add WePay and Stripe as payment gateways
Digital Forest Oct 17, 2013 3:41 PM (in response to TheBCMan)Another vote for stripe - the current payment gateways supported are expensive and cumbersome - they make a BC ecommerce solution expensive... this would be an easy win for Adobe to get a lot of ecommerce sites!!
-
13. Re: Please add WePay and Stripe as payment gateways
amgmarketing Oct 17, 2013 3:56 PM (in response to Digital Forest)I am not sure it just adding stripe will help Adobe win ecommerce sites.
The ecommerce platform is so far behind the competition that they would
need to do so much more than just adding a contemporary payment solution.
There is no mobile management system, there is no point of sale solution,
it's just an old clumpy ecommerce platform that has not been improved upon
for over 13 years since the days of Good Berry. I personally do not see
Business Catalyst as a good solution for ecommerce. There are so many
better solutions out there.
We recently built an ecommerce site on BC that had so many issues and short
comings we moved our client over to a new system. Our client is so happy
we jumped off the sinking BC ecommerce ship and so are we. We no longer
have any issues with the ecommerce website, we can use any payment option,
the mobile management system is stellar, and the customer service we are
now getting makes Adobe look like they use a second rate support firm from
India that can only give the canned answers in the quick key collection.
This is just my opinion about BC, I feel it is not a forward thinking
company. We still build some sites on BC and like many aspects of the
platform, however there are so many limitations and empty promises from
Adobe to improve it, that it is becoming more difficult to stay with it and
not look at the better solutions.

Liam Dilley Oct 17, 2013 4:04 PM (in response to amgmarketing)You all aware Stripe has Javascript support and you can implement this yourselves right now?
-
15. Re: Please add WePay and Stripe as payment gateways
amgmarketing Oct 17, 2013 4:09 PM (in response to Liam Dilley)Nope. You need server side access. something we can't do. Yeah we can
plug it in, but we can not integrate seamlessly.

18. Re: Please add WePay and Stripe as payment gateways
Liam Dilley Oct 17, 2013 4:46 PM (in response to Shawn_at_lotzabuzz)I am looking to do something like what I did for paypal:
-
19. Re: Please add WePay and Stripe as payment gateways
TheBCMan Oct 17, 2013 6:31 PM (in response to Liam Dilley)A "buy now" button in paypal or stripe is not an intergrated e-commerce solution.
-
20. Re: Please add WePay and Stripe as payment gateways
Liam Dilley Oct 17, 2013 7:23 PM (in response to TheBCMan)Paypal Plugin is not a buy now thing.
And with the javascript API from Stripe you can get good intergration as well.
-
21. Re: Please add WePay and Stripe as payment gateways
TheBCMan Oct 17, 2013 7:45 PM (in response to Liam Dilley)None of it is integrated to the backend of BC is more the point. Javascript for payment (client side) is just going to be as good as a buy button. If it was node.js serverside it would be a different story, but this is BC.
Unless Adobe does it or you build your own checkout on your server or fake it up and use BC API to indicate the processing of the payment it's not really integrated.
-
22. Re: Please add WePay and Stripe as payment gateways
Liam Dilley Oct 17, 2013 7:58 PM (in response to TheBCMan)The paypal plugin allows you to take payment for something on a BC form and go directly into the form. Depending on your setup you can have paypal invoice or have the order fully go into BC.
With Stripe they have a very good script API and you can also intergrate that very well in BC.
You just need to know how BC works and how to do this.
-
23. Re: Please add WePay and Stripe as payment gateways
TheBCMan Oct 17, 2013 8:20 PM (in response to Liam Dilley)The order fully going into BC has to be using BC's paypal function? I can't see how you can send anything to the backend of BC without using the API (server side) or the client side using the exposed Javascript functions BC has and but then you are still very limited.
If you have something then thats great, but I'll believe it when I see it
-
24. Re: Please add WePay and Stripe as payment gateways
Liam Dilley Oct 17, 2013 8:37 PM (in response to TheBCMan)Well you cant see it
What happens with these things - A payment success is returned and then BC handles processing it. To do full sollutions you need API or use the provided payment gateway options without question BUT does that mean you cant do anything and have information back into BC? Nope.
Stripe though with how they setup and their encrypted information pass you can implement credit card detail payment on your form and have confirmation back and then handle that with your form.
eCommerce + Stripe - Not tried that yet but Probably can get that work but in terms of a custom web form for people wanting to not fork out money for a seamless payment gateway to do donations, even bookings or other things there are options and I know how to do them.
-
25. Re: Please add WePay and Stripe as payment gateways
TheBCMan Oct 17, 2013 8:58 PM (in response to Liam Dilley)Cool so you got the users credit card, processed it in javascript sent to stripe, the customer has now paid for the product fair enough, how you going to send that infomation to BC, a form? It wont be intergrated.
Stripe is just like a buy now button minus going to a 3rd party website
I think this solution would be great for anything but BC, if you could flag an order that the client as paid for it would be very easy to do.
I guess you could use the API for just that last part but you would still need that 3rd party for the last step.
-
26. Re: Please add WePay and Stripe as payment gateways
Liam Dilley Oct 17, 2013 9:40 PM (in response to TheBCMan)Sounds like you have not checked out what Stripe has to offer at all.
And I know your very focused on API, but half the things you do in API I do in BC and jQuery. Because I know how.
Its just the knowing, if you think stripe is just a buy now button your not reading its docs pproperly.
-
27. Re: Please add WePay and Stripe as payment gateways
TheBCMan Oct 17, 2013 9:50 PM (in response to Liam Dilley)You really like to bully people, you don't know what I know and I've implmented stripe before.
The issue is BC isn't really a web 2.0 platform, it is very backend search and replace functionality (tags). The main problem with any front client payment solution is there is no client side connectablity with BC backend AJAX or otherwise.
-
28. Re: Please add WePay and Stripe as payment gateways
Liam Dilley Oct 17, 2013 9:57 PM (in response to TheBCMan)Thats not bullying, far from it.
I am just saying you need to go read up on Stripe. If you implemented stripe you have not seen the full script API or you would be agreeing with me.
Possible, done, works, great, options.
Client side is not just client side and API is not just Backend API, the web and how things work are not that cut and dry any more. its not 4 years ago
What is a payment in BC? What happens, what are the componants, what does BC do?
Before you do ANYTHING payment the order id exists as you know. What is one of the tags on the cart layout? {tag_orderid}
Knowing BC well, ignoring what BC says it is and can do and actually looking at what it actually is doing is vital to doing awesome stuff in BC. Not everything is API.

29. Re: Please add WePay and Stripe as payment gateways
Liam Dilley Oct 17, 2013 10:00 PM (in response to Liam Dilley)Captcha refresh was supposed to be not possible for example. Support still tells people that - Done.
Linking events and web apps togther without API seamlessly is not possible supposidly - Yep it is.
All just about openiing up the mind to what could be possible, trying things, experimenting and pushing BC to good use.
-
30. Re: Please add WePay and Stripe as payment gateways
TheBCMan Oct 17, 2013 10:13 PM (in response to Liam Dilley)How would you know what I know about stripe, API or otherwise don't assume anything!?
Sorry to go personal here, I'm happy for you to have learnt what an API means. You assume things you read today no one else knows. I remember you having a converstaion with you thinking that SQL = mysql and BC doesn't use a database. If anything you need to know talking about.
-
31. Re: Please add WePay and Stripe as payment gateways
Liam Dilley Oct 17, 2013 10:12 PM (in response to TheBCMan)Calm down man, lol.
Look, right here in this thread your saying simple pay option using stripe like paypal buy button that does not interact with BC properly. Thats not the case so you not looked into the stripe stuff fully, else you would agree.
I am not making any assumptions.
Im actually trying to help, trying to get you to expand and experiment and try things, lots of posts you said to people API only and others not even me have given direct BC sollutions or JS options or had those people contact them and do work directly in BC with no API use.
You can be doing that too, get stuck into BC man, its a PAIN in the *** and things you say about it being limited in ways and should be better in ways your 100% right but that does not stop me breaking down the walls and no reason you and others can not do the same.

32. Re: Please add WePay and Stripe as payment gateways
Liam Dilley Oct 17, 2013 10:24 PM (in response to Liam Dilley)Anyway back on topic.
Adding payment gateways.
There are lots of requests and lots of countries from those requests BC is a global product. People forget that there are several SAAS out there and nearly all of them have a limited payment gateway set. On that new payment gateways come up and go all the time.BC and Adobe can not keep that up adding / removing all the time, especially ones that may or may not be stable.
BC is also PCI Level 1 compliant and Secure and BC will want to keep that.
So what do you do?
For now focus on other things that are bigger requests, but going forward open up the platform but do so that keeps the stability, entegrity and security of the system.
So in terms of payment gateways what do they do? They have actually talked about this at events like Max. Offer up so you can add your own payment gateway system into BC by Providing the information or allowing payment gateways to supply that xml file say as just a crued example that they approve and add in.
That though keeping in mind security etc is not simple and will need some development work.
Shipping options can be the same and that may come first for example.
BUT BC know this and the platform is heading in this direction with lots of cool announcements to come.
Everyone has to be patient though, this year migrations are a bit undertaking but nearly done. TBH the team on that has done that relativly quickly and done very well considering the task at hand.

33. Re: Please add WePay and Stripe as payment gateways
Fueled Media Oct 17, 2013 10:28 PM (in response to Liam Dilley)Hi Liam, Im more of a designer than developer but have been using BC since 2005.
We have previously investigated many different methods to integrate various custom functionality into BC, including the ecommere platform.
I dont see any way where you could integrate Stripe seamlessly, in that the payment data would be passed through to a BC order and that order would be updated (ie a change to payment status and the amount applied to the ider). If you can explain how this is possible it would be an answer we have been after for a long time.
Ive had lengthy discussions with Adobe about something similar, in that I wanted to create an order, and then use the API, or any method, to update that order immediately. Essentially this is what you are suggesting.
From what i understand you say it is possible to:
1. add an item to a shopping basket
2. proceed through checkout
3. integrate stripe, using javascript, into the payment form
4. And have the returned transaction data update the BC order (ie update the status to paid, and apply the paid amount as a payemt)
How is the this possible? Can you explain in more detail?
-
34. Re: Please add WePay and Stripe as payment gateways
Liam Dilley Oct 17, 2013 10:48 PM (in response to Fueled Media)I am looking to build a plugin to sell for that but its looking at the webbooks, js and api information here:
Being more of a designer though its not something you can implement.
TheBCMan has one valid point that its always best being truely integrated, no doubt about that there. I think it really will be beneficial for people like yourself to not waste time trying to get say Stripe working and just choose another payment gateway for the projects or actually invest into a proper API sollution.
Talk to twoblokesandapostie for example on that.
If your using eCommerce that supports non seamless payment gateway options, use one of them there is my recomendation or paypal. Its supported so why not.
I not tried on the store with Stripe, is it possible? I think so, but what I am saying is more for when you want to do payments for custom web forms, bookings etc where at the moment BC by default only works with seamelss options (which is still the best option if that option is availible).
Are things possible? yes.
Is it easy? NO!
Please do not feel I am disrispecting you, far from it but its probably way over the skill levels of most so really do not spend the time trying to invest it further. Me and theBCman clash heads now and again because "it aint possible" "Yes it is" things.
I like to avoid API as much as possible for cost and other reasons, theBCMan likes to use API for a lot of things and probably because hes very good at it. SOAP is a pain so if you master it then its an acomplishment, especially with the BC API. We just think very differently.
So sorry for reading through those

35. Re: Please add WePay and Stripe as payment gateways
Fueled Media Oct 17, 2013 11:04 PM (in response to Liam Dilley)Thanks Liam ;-)
I just get so frustrated sometimes. Most of the time BC offers 95% of what our clients need but then to achieve that remaining 5% functionality we need to rely on JSON, the API, or other trickery in order to achieve the desired results.
A little off topic here but I recently came accross some API docs which i had never seen before ( http://prerelease.worldsecuresystems.com/apidocs ), these docs indicate a whole new layering of API functionality over and above the notifications and web services API's. Even simple things like updating a html web page with data from an external app seemed possible (without having to use JSON).
BUT.... no support whatsoever. The docs provided in this link above suggest they are 'pre-release' and i cant even get an answer from anyone at adobe as to whether the functionality outlined in those docs is even available.
Agghhhh.

36. Re: Please add WePay and Stripe as payment gateways
TheBCMan Oct 17, 2013 11:06 PM (in response to Liam Dilley)Should I change my name to the BCAPIMan? It is the right solution for job.
The reason I mention Jquery and API a lot in besides what BC can do day in and day out Javascript / jQuery and the API are the only other direct ways to talk to the BC backend.
IMO these days everyone should be using a javascript LIB like jquery, you cut down serious amounts of development time and cross platform / browser testing. So if alot of the stuff I recommend is jQuery it is for good reason.
If you know a better way to do it from your BC travels great stuff, post and educate us all, we are all learning everyday

37. Re: Please add WePay and Stripe as payment gateways
TheBCMan Oct 17, 2013 11:12 PM (in response to Fueled Media)Fuel media: Woah... a real JSON API, seems only for creating sites and admin functions, will this be rolled out to do more of the existing API functions?
-
38. Re: Please add WePay and Stripe as payment gateways
Liam Dilley Oct 17, 2013 11:14 PM (in response to TheBCMan)Well API isnt, direct intergration is, like in my post
And I await those updates like everyone else.
Those docs you should not come across, they were for a select group of partners help develop those API's, thats why there are no documentation outside the official listings for those. I have passed that link actually to BC right now and you will probably find you wont be able to access that soon.
-
39. Re: Please add WePay and Stripe as payment gateways
WYZROCK DESIGNS Oct 18, 2013 9:15 AM (in response to Liam Dilley)Just to let people know Kentico is a really good CMS that I have been testing to become a partner. I am not dropping BC but for now I need to gather my options to be able to offer other products that do more without custom integration (this is why I sell CMS to speed up development)... If they can't implement payment requests at BC then for my clients wanting to use stripe I will use another CMS simple as that. My company will not be held back based on Adobes lack of developing requested features.
