1. Re: Does Reader Touch support Japanese fonts?
MobileDevCK Feb 6, 2013 8:47 AM (in response to dl-cjf)Adobe Reader Touch for Windows 8 can only display PDF documents with embedded CJK fonts for now. We will be adding the support for PDFs with non-embedded CJK fonts in a future release.
If you have a PC/laptop/tablet with an Intel-based processor running Windows 8 (as opposed to Surface with Windows RT, for example), you can install Adobe Reader XI (desktop app with classic UI). Note that Adobe Reader Touch for Windows 8 and Adobe Reader XI can coexist on the same machine.

dl-cjf Feb 6, 2013 11:41 AM (in response to MobileDevCK)Thank you very much for the response!
I have a document with an embedded CJK font that is not displaying text in Reader Touch:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/53259014/2.pdf
The desktop version of Reader behaves seemingly exactly the same way as Reader Touch prior to installing the Asian Fonts Pack, which resolves the issue and allows it to display the document.
Is this an error or is there a limitation in Reader Touch's support for embedded CJK fonts? The characters are encoded in Shift-JIS, is this a problem for Reader Touch?
Thanks again!

MobileDevCK Feb 7, 2013 9:04 AM (in response to dl-cjf)Thank you very much for providing the sample PDF file. It made easier for us to diagnose the problem.
We determined that it was a bug in the Reader Touch code and fixed it locally. The fix will be available in a future release of Adobe Reader Touch. Please note that installation of the Asian Fonts pack will not be needed for Adobe Reader Touch for Windows 8 (unlike Adobe Reader XI).
Here's the screenshot of Adobe Reader Touch displaying the PDF file.

Dennis Griffin (Adobe) Feb 8, 2013 9:12 AM (in response to tm2412)We don't have a date for our next update yet, but we are planning to make frequent updates and enhancements to our app, so I would expect us to have our next udpate within the next couple of months, if not sooner, once we have a sufficiently useful collection of enhancements to release.
I understand that this issue is causing you and other users some difficulties, so we will make an effort to get it out.

tm2412 Apr 14, 2013 6:18 PM (in response to Dennis Griffin (Adobe))Hello Dennis.
Thank you for the response.
Do you have an update on when this will be resolved? There was a release of Adobe Reader this month (on the 9th) but it does not appear to have fixed the issue.
Could you give us any more information regarding a timeline for this.
Thank you.

8. Re: Does Reader Touch support Japanese fonts?
MobileDevCK Apr 15, 2013 8:33 AM (in response to tm2412)The fix for the problem was not included in Adobe Reader Touch version 1.1 (which was just released on April 12th) due to other issues associated with CJK font support. We apologize for the inconvenience.
At this point, we are not able to predict a specific date for the next release/update.
