Was toying around with Twixtor in AE, as I'm trying to learn the tool currently. So I've taken a 59.94fps .MTS clip from the Sony RX100 review over at DPReview.com to try and slow it down, and was getting some artifacts as can be seen in this video. Slow mo clip is 10% speed, and rendered and exported to same frame rate as source, Best settings to Quicktime H.264
Any help would kindly be appreciated.
I use Twixtor quite a lot here on our project - However, I still use only the basic settings. So take my advice from where it comes.....
It looks to me that you are trying to slow down the footage too much, given the amount of source frames. Twixtor will take 2 frames, and interpolate the frame in between. In other words, it uses what pixel information it has, to create a new frame from "blending" the two. If you give it too little information, these sort of artifacts occur. Either slow down the footage by a smaller percentage, or shoot at a higher frame rate.
That is what i "think" is happening, I will leave it up to someone with more experience than me to agree, or correct me!
Twixtor rarely gives final result in one go. This issue us very common and is due to motion blur. You may have to Rotoscope certain areas to get the final look.
