We use Director 11.5 to develop museum kiosks on a Mac. I sometimes use the cross-platform feature to create Windows projectors. The movies play fine, with all videos, on Windows 7. However, now computers are coming out of the box with Windows 8. When I try the projector (and associated files)on a new machine running Windows 8, the menus wold show up, but the videos don't load - the screen flashes a red rectangle with a diagonal X. Note: that the Quicktime H.264 files play fine on the same computer using Video or Windows Media Player. I wonder if anyone else has had this problem, and if so, if you can think of a work-around
Which member type do you use for the video playback? If you used Quicktime, then the PC that is playing the videos back will need to get quicktime installed before it will work.
The members are Quicktimes and DTS. The videos played on that computer, but just not with Director. You used to have to install QT in Windows XP, but I thought that Win8 didn't require that step.
the quicktime xtra depends on installed quicktime, not just any quicktime playing codec.
