I am trying to capture in CS5 video recorded on tape with a Canon Vixia 40 camcorder and I don't see this camera in the drop down list in settings/ device control/options. Using "standard" I get control of the camera but no frames are captured when the tape is advancing and the record button is active using "record", "tape" or in and out to initiate capture. The video is displayed as it advances on the camera but not on the monitor window. I usually record digitally with On Location, so I have not faced this issue before. Does anyone have advice?
There is no preview in Cs5 for hdv capture.
It does not matter if the camera is not in the dropdown list. Just set it to pal or ntsc, canon and standard.
Make sure the camera is set to hdv (and not auto) and also the capture format should be set to hdv.
When changing settings on the camera first disconnect the camera, never disconnect with the camera on.
Connect camera to computer, turn camera on, wait until the camera is reconized by windows.
Fire up Premiere, set up correct sequence which is hdv and capture.
