1. Re: How do I capture audio from PC playback?
rothmannnyc Feb 18, 2013 11:47 AM (in response to talbot)When you say you want to capture audio playback, you want the output of something that would normally be heard on the computer speakers, like YouTube or streaming audio?
If so, here's one way...
Go to Edit/Preferences, and choose Audio Hardware. For Device Class choose MME. For Default Audio Input choose "Stereo Mix." Now Stereo Mix will be available in your Input selector in the Multitrack editor.
If you want to use a microphone or other input device, then select that device instead of Stereo Mix.

2. Re: How do I capture audio from PC playback?
talbot Feb 18, 2013 12:39 PM (in response to rothmannnyc)I was able to figure that part out (I also had to switch recording device from the speakers to the card in Win7) but what I really need and my apologies for not being clearer are the actual steps to start it recording. I started a new audio project but can't figure out how to have it start a capture/record.
Thanks!

ryclark Feb 18, 2013 3:35 PM (in response to talbot)Having set up the correct hardware in Audition and opened a new file in Waveform view just click on the record button. In the Multrack view you first have to Record enable the track that you want to record ontoby clicking the "R" Arm for Record button in the track header panel. This click the Record button.

talbot Feb 18, 2013 3:43 PM (in response to ryclark)I found the obvious button, thanks! Of course it was right in front of me!
I now have another issue that I just posted about. The sample rates for the audio input and output don't match.

5. Re: How do I capture audio from PC playback?
rothmannnyc Feb 18, 2013 4:33 PM (in response to talbot)This takes a Windows setting and an Audition setting.
You'll need to go into your Windows Recording Devices settings -- if you see a speaker in the lower-right of your screen, right click on it and choose Recording Devices. Find your audio input source, go to properties, go to Advanced. You should see a drop-down menu with options for sample rate, stereo/mono, and quality. In general, you'll want 44.1 kHz for audio; 48 Hz for video.
Back in Audition, go to Edit/Preferences/Audio Hardware and select the same sample rate for output. I went through the same issue a few months ago, and that worked for me. Good luck!
