Getting error "sample rates for input & output don't match..."

    talbot Community Member

I am trying to create an audio file but when I click the record button I get this error:

"The sample rates of the audio input and audio output devices do not match. Audio cannot be recorded until this is corrected.

Use the appropriate operating system or audio device control panel to adjust the sample rates of the audio input and output devices to use the same settings."

I have the preferences set to use operating system controls and it seems to work because when I change it in the Win 7 Pro CP it adjusts in Audition.

So I am not sure what the settings should be. I am using the videocard as the source and not the speakers so does that mean the output should be to the card too?

      Please help, I'm confused.

      Thank-you for your time!

Got an answer from a previous question asking how to record and thought this might be helpful for others.

This takes a Windows setting and an Audition setting.

You'll need to go into your Windows Recording Devices settings -- if you see a speaker in the lower-right of your screen, right click on it and choose Recording Devices.  Find your audio input source, go to properties, go to Advanced.  You should see a drop-down menu with options for sample rate, stereo/mono, and quality.  In general, you'll want 44.1 kHz for audio; 48 Hz for video.

Back in Audition, go to Edit/Preferences/Audio Hardware and select the same sample rate for output.  I went through the same issue a few months ago, and that worked for me.  Good luck!
