Are you on Mac or Windows?
Are you on a new laptop now?
Do you have the Starter edition disk that you can install from?
Even without access to Photoshop Starter Edition, your photos should still be able to be located on the computer and accessible in the folders that they're stored in.
You might just do a search on that computer for *.jpg to find the location of the image files on your computer, then back them up accordingly.
Also, if you'd like, you can go try the latest version of Photoshop Elements 11 by visiting this page: http://www.adobe.com/go/tryphotoshop_elements/

Thanks for that Pete. I have tried to locate them as above, but they are stored in the Started Edition and every time I click in it, it asks for the verification code, which was already in there before they cancelled the Starter Edition. I am on Windows by the way if that's any further help?

The starter edition doesn't actually STORE your images inside the program, it just works with links to the images that point to the location that the files are stored in.
If you can locate your images, you can do what you want with them, and do not need to access the Starter edition to work with your files going forward.
