A recent problem in Prelude which I've tried to fix without success, driving me crazy

      Hi all

I've been using Adobe stuff for about 15 years.  Mainly photographic and illustration but also more recently getting into video editing.

I was using Prelude to sort through various media clips, setting in/out points and then Transcoding to another location.  It was working fine but suddenly and as far as I a aware nothing has changed on my system:

asus P7X79 Pro mobo, 32GB Ripjaws 2400mhz DDR5, Intel i7 3930K 3.2Ghz, Intel 250GB SSD (Boot), 2 x WD Raptor 500GB Drives in RAID (Media storage), 2 x 120gb SSD drives both scratch.  ATI HD 7950 3GB Graphics (I know NVIDIA for MPE) but I cannot justify buying a Quadro card as this system is only 8 months old and was well suited to the graphics and illustration work.

BUT Prelude crashed and since then I cannot process multiple clips, I.e. set different in/out points for several in that file directory and then ingest the, in bulk.  If I set an in/out point and click on another clip, I lose the edits, all the thumbnails disappear and say processing and this happens continuously.  doesn't matter where those original media files are, I tried moving them.  I can hear the audio fine.  What I have noticed is that Prelude is generating a new .CFA and .PEK file each time I click on a clip to preview it within that directory.

I can process the media ok if it exists as a single clip within a directory.  Not great but its a workaround until I found that sending more than about 4 files in succession results in AME crashing.  I can happily process these same files in bulk through AME when done without Prelude but of course it's nice to be able to only get the bits of the clip you want.  Prelude is exactly what I've been looking for if I could find a solution to this issue.

Sorry to hear you're having trouble. Sounds like the same issue ScottInAk and a few others have reported. I will forward your contact info to our team that is looking into this issue.

            Hi Wes,

I have now resolved this issue.  My workflow is to record .avi files.  These particular files are from games, (I'm a Mass Effect addict unfortunately).  They are recorded at full size 2560x1600, taking up 4GB every 2 mins.  Before Prelude, I was processing these through Media Encoder down to 1920x1080 whilst playing the game, thus keeping my drives pretty clear.

But I love the fact that you can ingest just parts of clips, that is ideal for games which tend to be quite "untidy".  Plus you can tag and comment them.  It's great.  I did two things and not sure which one may have fixed the problem:

First of all I took off Windows Media Player and then reinstalled that.

I also took off Premiere Pro, Encore and AME plus Prelude and not only reinstalled them off Cloud, I also copied across my most recent working files from Local, Local Low and Roaming and also Program Data.

The program is now working as it was before.  Although I haven't updated it yet, so it is still at version 1.0.0.0.

Another issue which may be deliberate on your part, I am not a professional video editor:

If I browse a directory with the raw .AVI files, they show up ok and I can hear audio.  This is how I intend to work now that I have some familiarity with Prelude.  But on a side note, the files that have been through AME and encoded to .MP4 via H.264 1920 x 1080, do show up ok but there is no audio.  It isn't a massive issue because it's quick to process them through Prelude as .AVI.  But I do have a fair number to sort through that have already been encoded to .MP4
