Dan74 Feb 23, 2013 11:16 AM (in response to Steve Howard, ACP)He's only 9, so I think Lynda might be a bit too sophisicated for him. Looking more for things geared specifically for kids.

Rick Henderson Jun 4, 2013 7:43 AM (in response to Dan74)If he is only 9 then I suggest that any Adobe Suite is too sophisticated for him. I would suggest starting with Stencyl to learn game programming, as it deals with graphics, interactivity and programming in a way that would be fun. He can also do things that aren't games if he learns to think out of the box. Also, I could recommend Scratch which he should try first which I believe has a lot of potential, but most of the examples you see are created by kids and so don't show a lot of depth or complexity.

ChristieJohann Jul 2, 2013 10:55 PM (in response to Dan74)@Rick is so right! That's really good to hear that he's only 9 and taking interest in designing and arts. I would like to suggest that first of all don't make it complex for him! Starting some easy to learn tutorials from lynda and Youtube would be a fine choice! Whenever he's sitting with you in front of PC, teach him some of the basics about suite of whatever adobe product if you're using any right now! Allow him to surf his time not more than 3 to 4 hours in a day about learning for the time being! Later on, when he'll find it interesting then let him take his time!

Erik Lord Jul 3, 2013 9:57 AM (in response to Rick Henderson)I dunno, Captivate can be tricky, but the basics are pretty simple. If the kid has a bit of computer saavy, I bet he could pick up CP pretty quickly....Presenter too, if he understands the basics of PPT...
As far as training resources, Youtube is great as you can pause/rewind and free access...

Sar_J Jul 18, 2013 2:23 AM (in response to Dan74)I found this site with tips for teaching kids to code, there are some good apps/websites listed on it. http://www.tablexi.com/blog/2013/06/6-tips-for-teaching-your-kids-to-code-and-why-you-shou ld/txi-life/
Codecademy listed on there might be a little advanced for him now, but it's worth checking out in a few years. I have used that site, and it is very good. It encouages you as you receive badges when you pass modules and quizzes.
