1. Re: Mercury playback hack no longer working after Nvidia drievr update
Alan Craven Feb 28, 2013 12:39 PM (in response to VidNoob)Because the 550ti is not on the Adobe approved list, you will have to re-perform all thye stages of the the "hack" each time you update the video driver. There are settings in the Nvidia control panel that are needed, as well as the txt file.

VidNoob Feb 28, 2013 1:34 PM (in response to Alan Craven)Yes I went into the Nvidia control panel to make sure the CUDA settings were enabled and still no go.

I don't believe that's true. For starters, the only part of the hack that really needs to be done is the .txt file. And secondly, a driver update doesn't change that. I've updated a few times without losing CUDA acceleration.
When there's an Adobe update, you will need to reedit the .txt file. But a driver update should not cause an issue.

John T Smith Feb 28, 2013 3:17 PM (in response to VidNoob)So... do the hack again and change the text file http://forums.adobe.com/thread/629557

5. Re: Mercury playback hack no longer working after Nvidia drievr update
VidNoob Feb 28, 2013 4:15 PM (in response to John T Smith)John: Since I didnt update Premiere, the text file was unchanged. The only thing changed was the graphics drivers. The name of the GPU in Device Manager in Windows is listed in the cuda text file. I set the Nvidia ctonrol panel to make sure the settings there are set like they are supposed to be too.

6. Re: Mercury playback hack no longer working after Nvidia drievr update
JSS1138 Feb 28, 2013 7:54 PM (in response to VidNoob)You've rebooted after the driver update?

7. Re: Mercury playback hack no longer working after Nvidia drievr update
VidNoob Mar 1, 2013 1:05 AM (in response to JSS1138)Yes indeed, multiple times. I performed the clean install option and even went so far as to download the CUDA toolkit

8. Re: Mercury playback hack no longer working after Nvidia drievr update
JSS1138 Mar 1, 2013 8:48 AM (in response to VidNoob)The CUDA toolkit isn't needed for Windows, and can even get in the way. I'd recommend removing it.
What is the driver version?

9. Re: Mercury playback hack no longer working after Nvidia drievr update
VidNoob Mar 1, 2013 2:22 PM (in response to JSS1138)The latest driver is 314. 07

10. Re: Mercury playback hack no longer working after Nvidia drievr update
JSS1138 Mar 1, 2013 2:46 PM (in response to VidNoob)I just performed an update to that version and all works as it did before. Didn't even need a restart.
Something on your system went wrong somewhere. Finding out what will be the challenge. Unfortunately, I'm not sure where to look. The best I can suggest is to reinstall the driver. If that doesn't work and no one else has any ideas, you may need to reinstall PP.

11. Re: Mercury playback hack no longer working after Nvidia drievr update
VidNoob Mar 1, 2013 2:46 PM (in response to JSS1138)Huh... Now did you manually nintall the previous drivers or just use the option for a clean install with the setup? Thanks for taking the time to check. Do you have one of the "official" Adobe cards for Mercury playback or are you using the text file hack?
-
12. Re: Mercury playback hack no longer working after Nvidia drievr update
JSS1138 Mar 1, 2013 2:47 PM (in response to VidNoob)I'm using a hack for my card.
I just ran the 314.07 installer downloaded from nVidia, Express option.

14. Re: Mercury playback hack no longer working after Nvidia drievr update
paulie7285 Mar 2, 2013 1:06 PM (in response to VidNoob)I just tried to do the hack for the first time, and when I tried to save the cuda_supported_ file it told me access denied! I have a GTX 550 ti that I can still return if this hack is no longer possible!

15. Re: Mercury playback hack no longer working after Nvidia drievr update
Jeff Bellune Mar 2, 2013 1:39 PM (in response to paulie7285)The heck with the hack. Just delete the cuda_supported_cards.txt file and you'll be good to go. No, I'm not joking. Yes, I'm serious.
If you really want to do the hack, launch Notepad by right-clicking and choosing Run as Administrator. Then open the cuda_supported_cards.txt file from inside Notepad and you'll be able to save your changes.

Alan Craven Mar 2, 2013 1:39 PM (in response to paulie7285)Drag the .txt file on to your desktop (remembring where it belongs!), edit there, save back where it belongs.

Jeff I actually did try doing that. Still nothing! I figured the program would just create a new file but it didnt even do that .

Notice the synchronised posting !
Both Jeff's edit method and mine work just fine, but I have never had any success with simply deleting the .txt file, either.

paulie7285 Mar 3, 2013 6:39 AM (in response to Alan Craven)Well, I was able to save the cuda file.. - I've got to say, that was a lot of fun tricking adobe - Anyway, thanks for your help, and I guess that means the hack is still working VidNoob.

21. Re: Mercury playback hack no longer working after Nvidia drievr update
digitlman Mar 4, 2013 6:35 AM (in response to VidNoob)Check and make sure the driver did not cause a change in the name of your card that is reported with gpu sniffer. You say you have a "560 Ti" maybe the space is gone now or the "TI" is in caps or "ti" both lowercase now....
-
22. Re: Mercury playback hack no longer working after Nvidia drievr update
VidNoob Mar 4, 2013 7:10 PM (in response to digitlman)One thing I've noticed is that when i run gpusniffer.exe, it says "Did not find any devices that support GPU computation" instead of typically how it would just say "CUDA Device # 0 not choosen because it did not match the named list of cards" .. but the thing IS in the list of cards! I put it there! Sigh...
Ah hah... Going back to driver 296.10 which is over a year old lets GPUsniffer actually detect the card..The hack works now.
WHY is this happening? Is it Adobe's fault that GPUsniffer wont detect the newer drivers or Nvidias?

23. Re: Mercury playback hack no longer working after Nvidia drievr update
JSS1138 Mar 5, 2013 8:41 AM (in response to VidNoob)Don't think so. All works fine here with the same card.

24. Re: Mercury playback hack no longer working after Nvidia drievr update
thepolitik Mar 7, 2013 6:55 AM (in response to VidNoob)I too am now having issue running Premiere after updating to Nvidia 314.07. For me, Premiere will crash when I try to play an asset or a sequence. If I turn off Mercury GPU first, it will play fine and the program is stable. Reverting back to Nvidia driver 310 solves the issue for me.
Premiere 5.5, GeForce GTX 660, Win7
