I am working on a project where when a character symbol is pressed athe character starts animating. However, the animation does not play unless the button continued to be pressed down.
The character is set up as a button with the "up" and "over" columns framed respectively. The frame containing the animation for the character is framed
you should use a movieclip button instead of a simple button if you want more precise control of the way your character responds to the mouse.
ie, create up, over and/or down frames. frame 1 should be the up frame and should contain a stop().
then you code your MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN and MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP listeners to suit your needs.
