lasvideo Mar 12, 2013 2:27 PM (in response to lasvideo)Tried turning the GTX 570 off. Made no difference.

3. Re: Rendering screws up track matte.
joe bloe premiere Mar 12, 2013 2:46 PM (in response to lasvideo)Can you 'round-trip' it through Ae via DL and render?
(I have not tried DL to Ae w/track mattes yet)

4. Re: Rendering screws up track matte.
lasvideo Mar 12, 2013 2:50 PM (in response to joe bloe premiere)Most likely. I wanted to keep all this in PrP for quick, easy modification. I thought PrP could easily handle just applying one track matte to one image. Unless there is some OE going on, Im rather shocked PrP cant handle it.

5. Re: Rendering screws up track matte.
joe bloe premiere Mar 12, 2013 2:50 PM (in response to lasvideo)You're talking Timeline render not export, correct?

6. Re: Rendering screws up track matte.
lasvideo Mar 12, 2013 2:52 PM (in response to joe bloe premiere)Exactly Joe. But I cant play real time for client without rendering due to conditions stated above. But rendering really mucks it up.

7. Re: Rendering screws up track matte.
joe bloe premiere Mar 12, 2013 2:59 PM (in response to lasvideo)With a client behind me I would quietly dupe the segment,
DL to Ae, hit render and get approval.
If there are tweaks, tweak the original, re-dupe and repeat.
Clean up the mess later.
edit:
As for why it won't work to begin with, I'm stymied.

lasvideo Mar 12, 2013 2:59 PM (in response to joe bloe premiere)Good plan. Ha ha. .Today is me exploring options BEFORE I do it with clients around.

9. Re: Rendering screws up track matte.
Evil Edison Mar 12, 2013 4:12 PM (in response to lasvideo)Are the Rampant masks white on black mattes or do they have alpha channels? Have you tested with Track Matte effect on both Matte Alpha and Matte Luma? Also, have you tried to do the same effect with a different matte (maybe just a white on black text matte). I'm just wondering if it's an issue with the elements you're using.

10. Re: Rendering screws up track matte.
lasvideo Mar 12, 2013 4:19 PM (in response to Evil Edison)Good thought .Yes I tried both alpha and luminenece settings in the PrPs Track Matte effect on the Rampant files. I havent tried any other mattes, but I well when I return to the project test. Thanks!

12. Re: Rendering screws up track matte.
Evil Edison Mar 12, 2013 4:38 PM (in response to lasvideo)Something else to consider... you said you had 23.98 clips in a 29.97 timeline? If the Rampant clips don't match your timeline, try changing their frame rate under Interpret Footage.

lasvideo Mar 12, 2013 5:20 PM (in response to Evil Edison)Another excellant idea. Thanks EE.

Jim Curtis Mar 12, 2013 5:28 PM (in response to lasvideo)You automatically delete your preferences when you get unexpected Pr behavior, right?

15. Re: Rendering screws up track matte.
lasvideo Mar 12, 2013 5:35 PM (in response to Jim Curtis)Always! Made no difference. I think it feels like a PrP bug. But I will trouble shoot a bit more before reporting it. With NAB so close, it wont get much attention for a while.

16. Re: Rendering screws up track matte.
lasvideo Mar 12, 2013 5:37 PM (in response to Evil Edison)EE, the talent footage is the Red 23.976 stuff which I did alter to 29.97. Worked gret. There is one shot that involves 2 shots and 2 mattes that will drop frames on first playback. At least its good to know PrPs limitations before getting buried in a project that keeps bumping into them.

17. Re: Rendering screws up track matte.
Jim Curtis Mar 12, 2013 5:38 PM (in response to lasvideo)The Pr Track Matte is horrible in the first place. I don't use it. I really dislike how the matte scales with any video you use it with. That's not the way they should work. I use Ae for all track matting, as they work properly in that app.
Anyway... sorry that didn't fix it.

18. Re: Rendering screws up track matte.
lasvideo Mar 12, 2013 5:50 PM (in response to Jim Curtis)Jim, its actually working quite well, tht is until I render it. Totally screws up the mattes as you can see from above. I was just hoping that PrP could handle such a simple thing on the timeline which makes my building and rebuilding much easier then going to AE.
Avid can do it :-) (runs away cursing the track matte under his breath)

19. Re: Rendering screws up track matte.
Evil Edison Mar 12, 2013 6:04 PM (in response to lasvideo)I tried to reproduce your problem creating a similar avi mask in AE and importing it to Premiere. Looked fine when setting it up, was screwed up when I rendered (in a way similar to yours). Then, I put a background clip on a layer beneath the matted clip, re-rendered and it was fine. Try dropping a layer of black beneath your matted shot and see if that works.

20. Re: Rendering screws up track matte.
lasvideo Mar 12, 2013 6:14 PM (in response to Evil Edison)Nice job, EE. That did the trick. A little counter intuitive, but what the heck, it works. If you are coming to NAB Im buying you a beer!

21. Re: Rendering screws up track matte.
Evil Edison Mar 12, 2013 8:13 PM (in response to lasvideo)Probably just the way PP handles an empty channel (ie, not well). Almost seems like it's showing it as premultiplied before rendering then unpremultiplied after.
