I have seven 2.5 mb .psd files. I need to convert them to .jpg files and bring them into Flash to make a banner (.swf) then mask out the backgrounds. The banner dimensions are 640 x 480 and the final file size can be no more than 50k. One of the images must be full screen, one must be 1/4 screen (product shot) and the remaining 5 are labels that sit on top of the product shot. The lable images are scaled down to approzimately 35px X 75px. I am having a hard time getting good image resolution with these specs. Does anyone have a work-around/solution? Changing specs is not an option (unfortunately).
If the file has to contain the images, then the file has to bear whatever weight the images contribute. The only way to get to 50K is to have the total weight of the images come in below that. If the label images are just text then you should see what you can do to draw them up as vectors in Flash. But I doubt the larger images are going to be able to be optimized down far enough to meet the spec while retaining the kind of clarity you want, especially if the 640x480 needs to be expanded to a larger full screen size.
Maybe you can put the large files on another server. Sometimes, for embedding videos, ad providers allow this kind of options. But your own server must support the charge.
