1. Re: I edited my movie with an iMac. Now I have a Win but I can't open the project
John T Smith Mar 16, 2013 7:57 PM (in response to Mr Challenge)I will GUESS that your Mac project has a file with a codec that may not be edited on a Windows computer... or may not be edited until you install the codec
What is the codec of the video file you are trying to edit?
Will that video file open in a new Windows project?

Mr Challenge Mar 16, 2013 8:04 PM (in response to John T Smith)Hi John,
Thank you very much for your interest and will to help, I truly appreciate it.
I also guess there must be some kind of conflic with the codecs.
The codec of the output video from that project file is H264 - MPEG-4 AVC(audio: MPEG AAC, mp4a)
When I try to open it in a new Windows projec, it gives me the exactly same error message.

John T Smith Mar 17, 2013 8:35 AM (in response to Mr Challenge)OK, not being able to open a video file would SEEM to mean that something is being created on your Mac that is missing a codec on your Win
On either, please find the video file details and post back

Mr Challenge Mar 17, 2013 8:47 AM (in response to John T Smith)Thanks a lot John.
The problem is that this specific project has a timeline of around 10 hours long. I produced two features out of it. I used many different kind of videos, pictures and even some After Effects compositions.
I've checked all videos I imported in the project and they all have same codecs: H264 - MPEG-4 AVC.
(audio: MPEG AAC, mp4a in some of the videos, in others: PCM S16 LE) -
5. Re: I edited my movie with an iMac. Now I have a Win but I can't open the project
Jim_Simon Mar 17, 2013 3:24 PM (in response to Mr Challenge)The codec of the output video
That part isn't relevant. He was asking about the codecs of the videos used in the project, not what you exported out of it.
But perhaps even more important might be the preview codec you had set for the sequence when on the Mac. If it was ProRes, you might be hosed and have to complete the project on a Mac. If it wasn't ProRes, then give this a try.
FAQ: Why are some codecs and sequence presets missing from my installation of Premiere Pro?

Mr Challenge Mar 18, 2013 9:32 AM (in response to Jim_Simon)Hi Jim,
Thank you very much for your assistance.
I realized what he was asking then and in my last message I wrote the codecs of the video I used in the project.
About the preview codec set for the sequence, do I have any way to know about it?
Could I open my project in an iMac and change that preview codec so I could work on it in my Win station?
The Mac I used to work is in other country and I have no way to get there. Thanks !!

Only by opening the project and checking.

Jim Curtis Mar 18, 2013 3:37 PM (in response to Mr Challenge)Have you tried creating a New Project, and importing the old one into it?

Could I open my project in an iMac and change that preview codec so I could work on it in my Win station?
Jim Curtis,
Yes I have, the result was exactly the same error message.
Thanks both for your help, I really appreciate it!
I hope we can find the way to solve this, im sure there must be one! -
10. Re: I edited my movie with an iMac. Now I have a Win but I can't open the project
Jim Curtis Mar 18, 2013 3:55 PM (in response to Mr Challenge)I've got a wild idea. You can open a Pr Project in a text editor app. Dupe your sequence and open it there. And dupe and open another project that will open. Look in the Project that won't open, and see how its header differs from the one that will. Maybe you can copy the info from the Project that will open, paste it into the copy of the one that won't, save it, and... see if it will open in Pr. Worth a shot, maybe.
I have a line that says this:
<VideoPreviewCompileSettings ObjectRef="4379"/>
Maybe if it IS a preview issue, chagning the number to something known that works will help.
I'm just guessing here. But, sounds like you're desperate. Maybe somebody with better programming skills can help. Good luck.

12. Re: I edited my movie with an iMac. Now I have a Win but I can't open the project
Jim Curtis Mar 18, 2013 4:21 PM (in response to Mr Challenge)Again, this is guesswork, but I'd try copying line 7 from the "good" file, and replace the line 7 in the "bad" one.
Or, maybe try lines 1 to 15.
Does the Windows version of Pr have XML export? If so, you could try exporting from your older project and import into the new version.

13. Re: I edited my movie with an iMac. Now I have a Win but I can't open the project
Mr Challenge Mar 18, 2013 5:50 PM (in response to Jim Curtis)Jim,
I've tried, but no luck. In other project files I have in this computer ("good files"), they have different values on those lines. The only one that is common in all is:
<Project ObjectID="1" ClassID="62ad66dd-0dcd-42da-a660-6d8fbde94876" Version="23">
and in the "bad file" the Version is "25".
I tried to changing it...but no luck.
I'm sure in this code there is the explanation/solution for all this, but there are thousands of code lines, and the word sequence appears too many times.
It's first time I heard about XML export and I haven't been able to find any XML file.

Jim_Simon Mar 19, 2013 5:17 PM (in response to Mr Challenge)Could I open my project in an iMac and change that preview codec so I could work on it in my Win station?
I would guess that should work, but I've never actually tried it.
