Can someone tell me why this page wont display?

    onefiftymph
      http://errall.com/page.html

      starts with

      ends with

      The links aren't good cuz I put it where it is to show the problem -ie: I see only source code -
      It was created in Dreamweaver and worked fine. Then my HD crashed and I'm without a computer and need to update the page, so I copied the source from Safari, made a body copy only edit to the page in Mac os10's TextEdit and uploaded it as text where it is and it won't display. I'm at a loss ..wtf?....

      thanks!

          I see only source code as well, but I viewed the source, copied and
          pasted into notepad, saved as test.htm and test.html... both work
          fine... so my guess is something server side, but I'm not positive on that

            It's html code, pasted into DESIGN VIEW.

<html>

<head>

            fix: open the page to edit.
            in design view, select all/copy
            go to Code View.
            select all, delete
            Paste.

            click into design view. better??

              Heh - it's displaying properly. That's what it's supposed to look like -

<html>

<head>

<title>Site Updates</title>

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;
              charset=iso-8859-1">

<script language="JavaScript">

<!--

function MM_preloadImages() { //v3.0

              Is this a trick?

                Are you sure it was created in DW? Looking at the source code, it clearly
                shows:
                You've got a lot of
                 items around, and all of the < and >
                symbolslook like you pasted code in Design view instead of Code view and it
                translated everything to the"view" symbols mode. I.e., you have stuff like
                this:

                </tr>
when you probably meant to have this:
you'll
                probably find it easier to redo it all instead of trying to "fix" what you
                have there.

                  and to cover that what you posted was intentional-

                  the code in the page is corrupted, starting around line 24.

                     ','../IMGS/INT/btnDN_about.jpg',1)">
      <a href=" http://errall.com/CONTACT/"

                  there's a couple lines of the function MM_findOb javascript function, which
                  is in the HEAD, then it skips into the middle of some table cell.

                  there's no
and no

                  do you have a different archive copy of the file?

                    No, you're not seeing the source code. You're seeing the content of the text
                    of the page, which happens to be a bunch of source code.

                    VIEW > SOURCE to see your problem.

                      Ha - no its not a joke. Now I'm totally confused. Like I said - I don't have Dreamweaver now - I had to bring my computer to a data rescue place after I accidentally trashed a critical folder. I'm on my work computer - no DW - no Code view - no Design view - and was only hoping to change a few lines of text in the page (created in Dreamweaver and working fine for months) and reupload it. I copied the source from Safari and used TextEdit and when I uploaded the page as text with FTP this is what I get. I have an old archive but I can't work in DW until I get my computer back and just wanted to update a few lines of text.

                      I guess my question now is - isn't it possible to copy source, edit in TextEdit and re-upload (as text) without this weirdness happening?

                        > and used TextEdit

                        The meta tag in the page shows you used iLife or iWeb or ??
                        Look in the menus/help for info on how to access souce code editing.

                        Or- easier- get this free app:
                        http://www.barebones.com/products/textwrangler/

                        It's not wysiwyg, but for editing source it won't give you any suprises.

                        And- the file you are working on is missing a section, starting around line
                        24. It goes from a js funtion to inside of a table cell, it's missing the
                        rest of the js function, the
and
tags.

                        find an earlier intact copy of that page.

                          Ah! You're using OSX's textexit.

                          It has a VERY odd behavior. When you save a text edit file as HTML, it
                          converts the the document as text to an HTML file. In otherwords, it doesn't
                          know that what you are typing is actually source code. It thinks it's
                          content you want on the page, so it converts it all to escaped HTML, adds
                          it's OWN HTML/BODY tags, and THEN saves it.

                          It's VERY annoying and I was bitten by it once too.

                          I don't have my other laptop on me, so I don't recall the exact fix, but it
                          had to do with saving it as plain text first, THEN, after saving, rename it
                          to 'html'.

                          -Darrel
