1. Re: Will you be releasing an 3.7 SDK that compatible with Apache Flex?
chris.campbell Mar 21, 2013 6:52 PM (in response to Justin M Mclean)Hi Justin,
The best place to find out what's going on with the AIR runtime would be to take a look at our roadmap:
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashplatform/whitepapers/roadmap.html
That being said, we also value your input and I'd like to recommend posting a bug / feature request on this and then letting the community know so that others can add their comments and votes
Thanks,
Chris

Justin M Mclean Mar 21, 2013 7:03 PM (in response to chris.campbell)Hi,
The roadmap includes no information about support for Apache Flex.
I have allready raised a bug request.
https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3526506
If anyone would like this fixed and AIR 3.7 to work wiwth Apache Flex please vote for it.
Thanks,
Justin

Harbs. Mar 22, 2013 2:05 AM (in response to chris.campbell)Just to add my voice to Justin's request:
It was not something that even occured to me that you could not overlay AIR 3.7 to Apache Flex. It's decisions like this that totally destroys developers' confidence in Adobe's continued support of their workflows.
I'm generally a strong supporter of Adobe's technologies (not to mention a Technology Partner), and this move just leaves me flabberghasted... I mean, Flex is Adobe's (Macromedia's) baby, and there's still a number of full time Adobe employees working on it. Why in the world did you change the air-config file to remove Flex compatibility?
You guys really need to addresss this ASAP.

+1, we know how little it takes to destroy confidence by industry and community with this kind of decisions.

FredericCox Mar 22, 2013 2:55 AM (in response to chris.campbell)I voted for this bug, this is dissapointing for developers once more. Confidence in Adobe is dropping since they really are messing things up big time!

14. Re: Will you be releasing an 3.7 SDK that compatible with Apache Flex?
Justin M Mclean Mar 22, 2013 3:52 PM (in response to chris.campbell)Hi Chris,
Yes AIR 3.6 worked with Apache Flex. There weere two versions of the 3.6 SDK released and one that worked with Flex and one that didn't.
See the text "Note : Flex users will need to download the original AIR SDK without the new compiler." on the AIR download page.
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/air-sdk-download.edu.html
Be nice if that note/link was made more obvious as we had a few people download the wrong version of the SDK.
Thanks,
Justin

15. Re: Will you be releasing an 3.7 SDK that compatible with Apache Flex?
chris.campbell Mar 22, 2013 4:44 PM (in response to Justin M Mclean)Thank you Justin. I talked with the runtime managers and found out that we do plan on releasing the AIR 3.7 SDK for flex users. The problem right now is that we only have the one (with compiler) available on the labs channel. We're discussing adding both to labs but I don't have a decision on that yet. Regardless, both will be available when 3.7 ships and hopefully we'll get the Flex compatible version out for beta too. The feedback on this thread and the bug report clearly shows there is a demand.
Thanks,
Chris
Ps. I'll also bring up the point about the confusion regarding the two versions and the subtle text.

ChivertonT Mar 25, 2013 2:18 AM (in response to chris.campbell)Cheers Chris. I do worry that if you don't peovide the same early access to an Apache Flex compatible version, it won't be as thourghly tested for bugs, which obviously ends up more work for everyone than just being Apache Flex compatiable from the get go.

Justin M Mclean Mar 27, 2013 6:49 PM (in response to Justin M Mclean)Hi Chris,
I noticed a new version of AIR 3.7 (March 26) has been released that is not compatable with Apache Flex.
Could you please get the content of this page modified:
http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/air.html
So that it has a big warning somewhere stating "This version of AIR is not compatable with Apache Flex".
Thanks,
Justin

21. Re: Will you be releasing an 3.7 SDK that compatible with Apache Flex?
chris.campbell Apr 2, 2013 4:43 PM (in response to Justin M Mclean)Thanks Justin. I talked with the team and let them know that this was important and confusing. We're wrapping up the 3.7 beta but I'll try to get this page modified if it's changed again. For 3.8 I'm going to press for both versions of the SDK to be made available at the start. At the minimum I'll make sure the page is noted accordingly.
Thanks,
Chris

22. Re: Will you be releasing an 3.7 SDK that compatible with Apache Flex?
rgbastrost Apr 4, 2013 6:20 AM (in response to chris.campbell)Chris, I've tried overlaying 3.7 beta with Flex 4.6 (becuase I'm still on FB 4.6) , but I get error 'no flex sdk found). Will you release Air 3.7 beta without ASC2 or point what dirs/files I should remove to make it compatible with Flex 4.6 ?

23. Re: Will you be releasing an 3.7 SDK that compatible with Apache Flex?
chris.campbell Apr 5, 2013 1:22 PM (in response to rgbastrost)Our official 3.7 release is scheduled for next week (if all goes as planned.) If you can hang on that long we'll have a build that you'll be able to simply overlay as you would normally expect.
We are working to improve/correct this situation and include both SDK releases in our upcoming AIR 3.8 betas.

24. Re: Will you be releasing an 3.7 SDK that compatible with Apache Flex?
rgbastrost Apr 5, 2013 2:04 PM (in response to chris.campbell)I've switched to Idea 12, which works with Air 3.7 beta without Flex SDK.
I'm actually look very much forward to 3.7 release, as before I couldn't test my Starling app on my macbook pro retina -- app was displayed in 1/4 of simulator screen.

Justin M Mclean Apr 5, 2013 3:05 PM (in response to chris.campbell)Hi,
Thanks again for looking into this. Looking forward to the 3.7 official release.
Is there anyway we can test and provide feedback before the 3.7 release. I hate to be in the suitation where the 3.7 released still doesn't work with Apache Flex as we were unable to provide feedback during the release candidates.
Thanks,
Justin

chris.campbell Apr 17, 2013 5:57 PM (in response to Justin M Mclean)We're also including the SDK compatible with Flex on future beta releases. Thanks again for bringing this omission to our attention.
Chris
