    Lost catalogs

    Jomak1

Hi everyone. I'm in a bit of strife and need some guidance.

I have Elements 10 installed on a hard drive. I access it off my laptop. I had problems with my laptop which required a reformat back to when I received it from the factory.

I usually access PSE10 by activating the startup icon on the laptop screen. This went with the reformat.

I went into the hard drive and tried opening the file by clicking on the Organiser. I got the prompt: Online services could not be installed. Please reinstall. I looked up the manual for reinstalling and followed the directions to install and then reinstall. I have done this but the only photos appearing in the organiser are those I have edited since the reboot. There is no sign of the previous 30,000!

Can anyone advise on how to access my catalog prior to the reformat?

Check at 'C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Elements Organizer\Catalogs' and see whether it has some folders or not. The folders in this location corresponds to the catalog.

            Hi Andromeda

I'm revisiting my problem of March as I still haven't got it sorted.

I followed your flow but only can go as far as - C:ProgrammeData/Adode.  There are some files under Adobe, but no reference to Elements Organiser/Catalogues.

            Cheers

              Hi Jomak,

Looks like your catalogs folder went away with the system format. Can you please check Help > System Info menu in Organizer and see what is the location of current catalog?

              Thanks

                Hi Andaleeb

This is the info under Help/System Info:

                Current Catalog:

                Catalog Name: My Catalog 1

                Catalog Location: C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Elements Organizer\Catalogs\My

                Catalog 1\

                Catalog Size: 5.4MB

                Catalog Cache Size: 218MB

Since I tried to restore the 30,000+ photos I now have two identical

catalogues of the 1300 photos since my reformat.  They are My Catalog and

                My Catalog 1.

Thanks for your interest and help.

                Cheers

Thank you for a prompt response.

Earlier you told that PSE10 is installed on a hard drive. Is the drive an internal one on this laptop?  Was it formatted as well?

Do both My Catalog and My Catalog 1 have 1300 photos only? Are these identical?

                  Thanks

                    Hi Andaleeb

My  PSE 10 is installed on a separate external hard drive.

My Catalog has 1123 photos on it.  My Catalog 1 has 1382 photos on it.  The

difference being the photos I have edited since I tried to restore my

                    backed up catalog.

                    Cheers

A very naive possible solution would be to search for any file with the name ".pse10db" on your computer. That would list all available catalogs on this system.

But IMO, the older catalog must be gone from the system after format since its default location is %programdata%\adobe\elements organizer\catalogs which is not dependant on where you have PSE itself installed.

                      Thanks

No good - no items matched the search.

If you have backed up your catalog prior to system format, it should restore fine. Otherwise, sorry to report, but that catalog looks gone.

                          Thanks

                            Hi Andaleeb

Thanks very much for your help.  I've reached the same conclusion.

I just have to move on .............
