I don't know..
But I spoke with guys at ADK a few weeks ago about BM and stuff.. and they had just finished testing it out and doing all kinds of stuff with it and am sure they'd tell you what they know if you call on phone.
My understanding is that certain BlackMagic devices do not do any kind of on-the-fly conversion. It outputs a signal matching the sequence, so if your monitor isn't capable of seeing that, you get black.
For example, my reference TV is an older CRT set which can't take a 1080p signal. Ideally I'd like the I/O device to convert my 1080p/24 sequence into something the TV can handle, like 720p/60 or 1080i/30. But BM devices won't do that, so I'd see nothing from a 1080p/24 sequence. However, a 720p/60 sequence would work fine.
Ah thank you Jim, I have progress! Indeed, the monitor is reading the input as 1080p 24fps, so a sequence set on anything else will not display. As I'm editing a sequence at 720p so I can scale up my video a bit, does anyone know of a way I can set the output to 720p 24fps?
I think Jim nailed it... you said..
which I kinda thought might be some kinda breakout box...but I think that's where this is gonna happen.. for the crt... ??
