1. Re: Render Que Output - Black Bars on Video (image)
Mylenium Mar 23, 2013 10:29 AM (in response to perfectblue)You are using H.264 and it is conforming your output to standard HD resolution, possibly even changing the pixel aspect ratio. Unless you use certain MPEG Profile Levels (4.3, 5.1), custom resolutions and framerates in H.264 are not allowed and any output will be forced to standard specs. Customize the settings in the H.264 panel.

perfectblue Mar 23, 2013 11:13 AM (in response to Mylenium)@Mylenium,
Thanks. The main composition was 1920x1200 I suppose thats not the standard resolution H.264 uses. If I customize H.264 and specify 1920x1200 as the resolution will that affect anything when I upload the video to youtube? It should register as 1080 for the HD settings once uploaded.
Thanks

Mylenium Mar 23, 2013 11:22 AM (in response to perfectblue)YouTube will scale it just as well. Nest the result in a suitable HD comp or crop it on the render queue in teh output settings.

Rick Gerard Mar 23, 2013 7:24 PM (in response to perfectblue)Don't resize in the output module. Make a comp that is the right size for your output and then drag your comp into that new comp and scale it uniformly in X and Y or fit composition horizontally into the new comp. Then render the "render comp"

perfectblue Mar 23, 2013 7:43 PM (in response to Rick Gerard)@Rick Gerard,
What resolution size does the new comp need to be to remove the black horizontal bars? I am still confused as to why 1920x1200 doesnt work, thats a full screen size resolution?
Thanks for clarifying

It may be fullscreen on your system, but it's not HD. 1920x1200 is a 16:10 computer desktop ratio which has no counterpart in the video world. That's all it comes down to: If you want to avoid such issues, your need to adhere to established production standards and that will be even more critical once you start working for clients that need to use this stuff for "real" TV or you need to excahnge projects with otehr people...

perfectblue Mar 24, 2013 6:03 AM (in response to Mylenium)1280x720 Would get me full screen at 720p yes? I would like to get 1080p, what would be a good resolution to use to achieve this, 1920x1080?

9. Re: Render Que Output - Black Bars on Video (image)
Rick Gerard Mar 24, 2013 4:51 PM (in response to perfectblue)Use the presets in the Composition Settings panel. That's what they are there for. Create your new comp, drag in your odd size comp, fit the composition horizontally using Layer>Transform>Fit Horizontally. This will keep the footage from distorting and eliminate your black bars on the sides but it may give you black bars on the top and bottom or it may crop some of the image. If you want 16:9 and your original isn't 16:9 then you need to compromise somewhere.
