I understand from other discussions (http://forums.adobe.com/message/2184802#2184802) that exporting files to Video for Windows formats--such as AVI--within Adobe products on Mac is not possible. Out of curiosity, I was hoping to learn more information as to why, exactly, that is the case.
I am aware that Mac does not support these Windows formats. Also, I don't have expectations that this will ever be possible, but I just found it interesting that while there are numerous applications available to convert files to AVI on Mac, Adobe products cannot export them. Why is that? Obviously they would if they could, but I look forward to learning more about this and appreciate anyone who could provide more information.
Adobe application rely on components installed by the operating system for creating certain kinds of files. Apple has chosen (for obvious reasons) to not include AVI frameworks on Mac OS. You can install components (such as Flip4Mac) that add this functionality to QuickTime, and Adobe applications will take advantage of that.
Thanks Todd, I appreciate the information.
