you don't load into target movieclips in as3. are you sure you're using as3?
if so, read about the Loader() class that you would use to load external swf's and images.
Hi kglad, thank you for your reply. I'm definitely using AS3 and the Loader class. Below is the code (in part). And empty is the instance name of the empty movie clip that sits on the stage of the master file. The code works fine and loads the external file into "empty". I just can't access the dynamic text box inside the external swf.
And I'm confused as to why you said "you don't load into target movieclips in as3". Do you mean, "it's not possible" or do you mean "that's not the way to do it in AS3". It's definitely possible, because I'm doing it. But perhaps my way is simply not the way I should be doing it? Sorry, AS3 is so much harder than AS2 and it's kicking my arse. Any other information you could give me would be much appreciated.
you're not loading into empty. you're attaching a child loader to empty and the content property of loader is the main timeline of your external swf.
the following is how you would reference your textfield in your external swf:
Ohhhh... I see. Thank you for clearing that up regarding the empty movie clip.
And thank you for the code.... MovieClip(myLoader.content).textBoxName
