I am working with XDCAM footage from Sony. I am a recent convert from FCP7. I am trying to figure out my workflow and file management. When I used FCP 7 log and transfer all of my XDCAM footage was logged in and transferred to the location I specified on my hard drive. I could rename those files and then drag them back into FCP7 and I would have an easy link of named files I could track down in my Capture Scratch. Now in PP I understand I can drag the files directly from the card to my external drive, but I will tend to shoot and edit something then have to go back to it weeks even months later and pick up to make changes. Is there a way to rename or organize the video files from the XDCAM similar to that of log and transfer?
With tapeless media, the organization is best done within PP, leaving the root folder and it's entire contents untouched.
I use XDCAM footage as well and what I do is make a new folder with suitable name on desired HDD I then copy the root folder from my card and paste all the media into the new folder. When you are in PP I use the media browser to import everything I need for my project. Very easy and PP only shows the files that can be used to edit and hides all the other metadata.
