What happened to your last catalog? Were you upgrading from a previous version, or simply recreated the catalog you were using in PSE11? What OS are you on?
1) Did these same photos work in your previous catalog? If so, have there been any changes to them since they previously worked?
2) The "-1" is added when a file with the same name already exists in the same location the file has been copied to (to prevent overwritting the file). This means that likely the files were already on your computer and did not need to be imported directly from your camera again.
(1 Sometimes in tech support the word "desktop" is used interchangably with "hard drive" (i.e. your "desktop" computer). If you've imported these files into the Organizer from this location, you can quickly move them to another location using the Orgaizner to reduce the clutter.
2- This sounds like what you have already done. But things don't seem to be working properly, so this suggestion is to simply try again.
I'm on Windows 7. A friend built my PC and took everything off to reinstall Windows 7 when I was having some problems. He saved the pics but not Elements so all albums were lost.
Re 1) interestingly enough some of the pictures from my old phone are in the catalog, but nothing will move off the LG Octane. 2) not sure why Elements 11 is automatically moving all pictures and creating the dupe with -1 even though my preferences state new pics only. It's not giving me an option; they're just automatically moving. Now there's a new issue: Can't e-mail pics. Apparently it's a Windows 7 compatibility issue. Neither Adobe mail or Outlook will work ~ just get a never-ending spinning circle indicating it's trying. The forum said to download Windows Live Messenger, but that's no longer an option: MS has moved to Skype.
If your friend cleared you computer and installed Windows, then there should be nothing left from your previous computer. However, you mention "LG Octane", which sounds like you are talking about an external hard drive. Did you store you photos on this drive?
If your Organizer catalog file was on the wiped drive, there should be no left over catalog with any files, new or old. So I'm not sure what you mean that there are old files in the catalog. There should only be what you've imported.
Elements shouldn't be moving and duplicating files unless you tell it to. If you've imported these files from your device in the old catalog, Elements won't know that because that information is gone (it doesn't see the files on your hard drive until you import them). So if you are importing the files for the second time in a new catalog, that would easily explain the duplication.
For email, you need Windows Live Mail (not Messenger, so not Skype either). This is downloaded as part of Windows Live Essentials.
My PC guru backed up "My Pictures" onto an external hard drive. He then put them back on the PC after reinstalling Windows 7, but didn't reload Adobe Photoshop or Elements, so the pictures had to be moved into my new Elements 11 program. When I connected my camera, it repeated all the photos again. That's what I meant by having duplicate pictures.
The LG Octane is my cell phone - separate issue. When I connect it to my PC, the photos won't transfer into Elements. The response is "not supported" even though they're JPEG's.
Thanks for the tip re Windows Essentials. It's downloading now.
