update to camera raw 6.7 pro

    Huckaback

Sorry I have only just realised there is a seperate section on here for camera raw, I posted this in "plugin forum by mistake " and got no replies.

Please can you help solve the total loss adobe camera raw from my photoshop CS5.1 ?

I noticed that 6.7 update was available with the patch installer.

I downloaded, unzipped the files and double clicked the installer as required.

message displayed to say update now installed, seemed fine I thought.

However when re-starting photoshop I soon realised camera raw plugin was totally missing..no update or old version, to view or open files with.

also missing from CS5 bridge, what a pain !

I use windows XP and also use CS 4 extended on same machine. both versions of CS have worked fine until trying to install this update.

after a few hours trying to solve my problem I'm hoping someone has some way to overcome this.

      Thanks in advance

      Martin

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

Have just checked what is in the CS5 file formats, see  below.

only one file in that folder

            Camera raw  .8bi

            8 Bi  file

            20,309 KB

I have checked the properties for that file and it says

            file version   6.7.0.339

            photoshop camera raw plug-in

and what is happening when in PS you go to "File" -> "Open As" and select "Open As" = "Camera Raw..." in the dialog box for a raw file ?

in the drop down dialog box there is no camera raw listed.

The only mention of raw in that list is "photoshop raw"

as originally mentioned I have CS4 extended as well and works fine. so I just tried exact same thing in cs4 and the "camera raw is showing as normal in that drop down list. and works OK.

I did not mention earlier I use CR2 files from canon 1D Mk4.

                Thanks for help so far.

Are you on Windows 32bit OS or 64bit OS?

Thanks! I just re-read your posts, it looks like your plugin is named as “Camera raw .8bi”

                      1.      Could you double check to make sure there is no extra space between “raw” and “.8bi”?

                      2.      If still no luck, please email me directly at mqi@adobe.com<mailto:mqi@adobe.com> and I will work with you offline to get it resolved.

                      Thanks,

                      Michelle

                        Camera Raw.8bi

                        No extra space between.

sorry just the way I wrote it on here.

                          Hi,

Do you remember what version of camera raw photoshop cs5 had before you updated to camera 6.7?

If you look in photoshop under Help>System Info and then in the system info dialog next to System architecture

                          what does it say?

Or better yet could you copy and paste the contents of the systen info here on the forum?

I think my old version could have been 6.5.

System architecture.  AMD CPU Family ; 6, model; 10, stepping; 0 with MMX,  SSE integer, SSE FP

I have checked various places around the web and I'm really amazed how many people are facing similar problems, trying to get the latest updates to load and work properly.

I just decided to try and download and install version 6.5 (getting quite desperate to sort it now )  it all seemed to download OK, unzipped the files and double clicked the installer. opened up CS5 and just another waste of time.

In place of so many people trying to search and locate various ways to fix problems related to updates of ACR...would it be possible to have pinned page on here showing a list of known issues followed by possible solutions (or links to where that information can be found).

I'm just wondering since you have photoshop cs5.1, how many folders do you you have in

                              C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins

Maybe someone with photoshop CS5.1 can comfirm whether the camera raw plugin folder is supposed to be named

                              CS5 or CS5.1

In other words is the path for the photoshop CS5.1 camera raw plugin on a 32 bit windows system supposed to be

                              C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS5\File Formats

                              or

                              C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS5.1\File Formats

                                Problem now sorted.

I was not getting anywhere close to solving this problem and therefore decided to start again...uninstalled CS5.1  (without de-activating) then run a registry cleaner (Norton)  and then re-installed from original product disc.

I was pleasantly surprised to find all added plugins and many added actions were still there when checking the new install.

I had made sure I had copies of all actions and plugins before removing CS5.

This really has put me off ever updating any Adobe product in future ! however always good to get the latest and keep things up to date.

Thanks to all that offered advice.
