John Waller Apr 10, 2013 8:12 PM (in response to 001andrew)Are you happy that you are on the cloud?
Yes, works fine for me.
Do you miss the old fasion own your apps?
No, don't miss it but I do wish there was a friendlier exit policy for those are on the Cloud for a length of time then want to opt out.

davidwanderson4475 Apr 11, 2013 9:24 AM (in response to 001andrew)Hi - I'm a complainer and I'm not shy. That said, I have no complaints about the Cloud. It works perfectly for me.

Nancy O. Apr 11, 2013 9:30 AM (in response to 001andrew)I'm happy with the Cloud. It works fine for me.
I actually have access to more apps now than I did with Perpetual Licenses.

5. Re: Is anyone on the cloud happy
davidwanderson4475 Apr 12, 2013 11:36 AM (in response to 001andrew)Hi - just butting in here - I've been an Adobe user since the beginning. I used to maintain two suites - production and creative - as I'm involved in both print and video. My upgrades cost more each year than my subscription does now. Plus, the cost is spread out, versus digging deep for cash.
This also keeps me current, so when someone sends me a CS6 file, I'm up to date, versus having to upgrade on the fly.
I also need to "open and export" from many types of client files - so having the master suite at my disposal helps in that regard.
This year, I will pay less for the cloud - the full master suite ++ than I would to upgrade just ONE of my CS5 suites. So, I get more and pay less. After the first year, I'll need to do the math again - but it looks promising.
The only drawback I can see is if you are band-width challenged and that would apply only to the intitial installation.
No - they don't pay me to say these things and I have been a consistent complainer about every tiny thing I find wrong with software products.

001andrew Apr 12, 2013 11:45 AM (in response to davidwanderson4475)David
I can see that for you this makes total sense and the savings are there. I can also see that you make a living using Adobe software. It is a steal for any bussinss making a good living off the products.
For a Hobyist like me it is three times the price. I am paying products i do not need.
Most importsat Adobe has removed the option to Choose in make case and cancled my upgerade path

7. Re: Is anyone on the cloud happy
davidwanderson4475 Apr 12, 2013 11:52 AM (in response to 001andrew)Hi Andrew. I agree. The Adobe suites make money for me. While I would miss them, I would not be able to afford them for my hobby art. The same holds true for MicroSoft Office. I'd be using free open source software instead.
I didn't realize the product-per-product or suite-for-suite upgrade path was gone. Candidly, I would think that would be a problem for many customers who wish only to use a single product.
Yikes!

8. Re: Is anyone on the cloud happy
001andrew Apr 12, 2013 12:07 PM (in response to davidwanderson4475)David ya the math is 350-500 every two or three years, vs 1800 or more over three years. I cxan see Adobe uping the price onc subscribers are at a level they like. Then once that hapens you have given up your legacy lic as I understand it .
I can see it good short term for floks fresh out of college. Or long term for a bussines like yours that writes it off either way.
I think once on the cloud people will be stuck with whatever Adobe give them that right now we can choose to upgrade or not and so Adobe has to work to make us happy. On the cloud they can slack off beacuse its all or none and we all need there products.
Since I cannot upgrade I will use my PShop from cs4 i own that. I will use another platform to edit video and will not spend a dime with them.
IF they were not bullying me into the clown then I would upgrade.
As a documentarty filmaker I cannot cough up cash for them every year. i feel that like you said i could use open source But i chose to do the right thing. I think that Adobe at one point asked that of us. I think Adobe is showing now that they are not about doiung the right thing and the future does not look good.
i wonder at what price point would the cloud be too costly for you, $80-90-100? What if the rate jacks up next year? what then

9. Re: Is anyone on the cloud happy
Nancy O. Apr 12, 2013 1:18 PM (in response to 001andrew)And what if the sun doesn't rise tomorrow? You deal with that when the time comes.
My guess is Adobe will continue to keep the Cloud affordable to attract new users & keep people coming back to it. Keep in mind that Adobe is not a lone wolf. Apple, Google and Microsoft are all moving toward subscription based offerings. This is the new trend now.
Of course, each person must weigh the pros and cons of License vs Subscription for their particular needs & situation. On Perpetual License, I didn't upgrade every cycle or even close to it because the suites were expensive. Subscription ($50/mo) is much more affordable for me even if I don't use all 17 products. Just knowing I have access to all of them gives me great comfort. Now, when a client tosses a particular file at me, I know I can open it. Previously, I had to scramble.
I don't know which products you use, but in my line (web, print, graphics & web media), technologies are changing so fast that subscription software makes a good deal of sense to me. My clients want a relevant product -- not re-cycled stuff from a decade ago. If it were otherwise, I'd still be using Quark, Dreamweaver 8 & Photoshop 6 (which I still own by the way) .

10. Re: Is anyone on the cloud happy
davidwanderson4475 Apr 12, 2013 1:22 PM (in response to 001andrew)Hi Andrew. I'm surprized about the lack of an upgrade path other than the Cloud. I had not looked into that, but now that I have, everything seems to have stopped on December 31, 2012.
ADOBE: Is this true? No more physical upgrades for single products or suites? None of my clients will be in the Cloud - so will you just lose them as customers? These are large, multinational corporations and they will not allow that type of Cloud access (not saying they are right, just saying that's the way it is). If admin rights are required, Adobe will be in a world of hurt! I dare say that Adobe would lose every photographer, Flash specialist or video specialist if that's the case.
Andrew - back to your point, I don't know what the price ceiling is. But, I do know there is one : -). I can justify $1,000 per year, but I won't like it. I will keep my 5.5 versions handy for a long time.

11. Re: Is anyone on the cloud happy
001andrew Apr 12, 2013 1:41 PM (in response to Nancy O.)well Nancy as long as you can Choose to leave your old lic and go to the cloud, If you are not given a choice then things change. As for me I can use PShop 5 if need be but cs 3 or 4 is fine also The latest version of AE and if it works primere But CS4 in premire was not even close to the promise so I just stcuk with FCPSp really All I need is an upgrade fore AE but i would like to try preimere. I shurly do not need 17 aps.
For what i do i go work long hours on movie sets as a crew member then when I have time off i work on my project. if when its done I can sell it great. But when Adobe iss trying to foce me to a mothly that is taking money away from the wwhole budget. For me the cloud does not work at all! The idea that i forget about my legacy software is absured. The NAB Adobe sales staff telling me it is my only option is not true. And my respect for Adobe has gone to about zero

12. Re: Is anyone on the cloud happy
Nancy O. Apr 12, 2013 1:43 PM (in response to davidwanderson4475)@David,
I think your information may be confused. After May 1st, Adobe is discontinuing "boxed" versions of perpetual licensed software on Creative Suite products. Everything will be by digital download.
AFAIK, you can still upgrade product to product or suite to suite on perpetual license. However, it's a 1-ver back policy now. Formerly, you could upgrade as far back as 3 versions.

13. Re: Is anyone on the cloud happy
Nancy O. Apr 12, 2013 1:47 PM (in response to 001andrew)I don't understand what you mean by "giving up your license." I still have my older apps and they continue to work just fine. I can always go back to them if I decide to quit the Cloud.
If you don't upgrade every cycle, you lose that upgrade option anyway. And I never upgraded every cycle.
Nancy O.

14. Re: Is anyone on the cloud happy
001andrew Apr 12, 2013 2:05 PM (in response to Nancy O.)IF you dont upgrade every cycle is a policy created to force you into the cloud Nancy. The Cloud is not cheaper that an upgrade cycle it is much more. Why not alow us to upgrade whats the harm. Adobe could keep us as costomers now. I can go Open source, over to Avid back FCP Vegas whatever. Getting a 300-500 every year or three is better than nothing. I cannot Pay 600 a year. Adobe is shrinking its user base and thinks everyone is going to just pay more.

15. Re: Is anyone on the cloud happy
Nancy O. Apr 12, 2013 2:23 PM (in response to 001andrew)Drew,
All I can tell you is your mileage varies from mine. I did the math and over 5 years with the products I use regularly, $50 per month (or $30/mo for first year if you qualify) is a whole lot better than purchasing a full scale suite and then buying upgrade, upgrade, upgrade, upgrade... My accountant agrees.
Nancy O.

16. Re: Is anyone on the cloud happy
001andrew Apr 12, 2013 2:42 PM (in response to Nancy O.)first 30per mo is a year contract like ATT would do
so for Production Premium my last upgrade was 350 and honestly I am not a pro so i can skip a cycle and be fine. Infact that was recpomended back in film school. So even if were the high end 500 for an upgrade. with lifetime ownership! over two years is 250, over three if work is slow or whatever happnens you maybe upgrade in three years. That would be $166 per year.
ON PUFFY its assume the baait switch price of 30 for a year so 360 one year. Then $960 for two years then on three years its. $1666 plus tax! Now tha is a price assuming it does not go up after the first year and stays at the 50 price. So that is my math and i dont lease cars I buy them cash and i do buy new. I do not live on credit and I firmly belive that we would not have a banking crisis and banking abuse if people would do the math. After reading what you wrote nancy I wonder did you do the math.?
You need an accountant to splain this to you
Well i think Wall Street will Agreee with me So if you own Adobe stock sell because not everyone does there math like you

17. Re: Is anyone on the cloud happy
Nancy O. Apr 12, 2013 3:03 PM (in response to 001andrew)I'm trying to be polite, sir. But you're just being stubborn & confrontational.
I said my situation was improved with the Cloud because it is.
In my work (not a hobby), I regularly use Dreamweaver, PS Extended, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat Pro, Bridge, Media Encoder and occasionally Premier Pro. Given that small laundry list of items, I would have paid $2600+ tax for Master Collection Suite + multiple upgrades over 5 years.
I don't need an accountant or you telling me what I already know. For me, the Cloud is a bargain!
End of story.

18. Re: Is anyone on the cloud happy
001andrew Apr 12, 2013 3:11 PM (in response to Nancy O.)nancy there is a big diffrence between owing and renting, leasing etc. The term morgage like your home loan in its Root is Mort like death. So a morgage means a contract till death. This is a move to not owning your software you are giving up so much more than you realize. We have a cutlure that lives well beyond its means and if you payed attntion the bank bailout, The skyrocketing then falling housing price, and the crisis were all built aaround this model of a Debt based econmy. Here is the downside for Adobe all the peole who are Not You pros but all the people that like the products will sighn up for 30 bucks. However when the products are to hard to learn and they are not easy. When they are not really using them, and or when times are tough the non pro subscriber will drop the product! So for you maybe it is great for now But for others it is a price increase that is uncalled for indeserved not needed and sold with the Bullying tactic of refusing upgrades. Now I belive in choice Adobe chose to be greedy, it had a good thing going. Now its loosing people like me likly for good.

19. Re: Is anyone on the cloud happy
John Waller Apr 12, 2013 3:20 PM (in response to 001andrew)Now its loosing people like me likly for good.
Seems to me that given your line of (valid) logic, you're probably not in Adobe's target market.
Problem is, what's your alternative?
-
20. Re: Is anyone on the cloud happy
001andrew Apr 12, 2013 3:20 PM (in response to Nancy O.)I am polite with you. even at 2500 bucks over five years the old way is still cheaper.I thought you said you had a leagcy version sso all you would pay is the upgrades/.
you are right this is a waste of time. Adobe has head me , Enjoy the cloud one small bit of advice packa chute! My experince agrees
PS my mother RIP was a head hunter way back and plaaced many folks at Adobe. She was an Advocate the the bussines be win win just beacuse you see this as a win for you its not a win for other users. beyond that The cloud should be a choice not the only option and that is where we are heading!
-
21. Re: Is anyone on the cloud happy
001andrew Apr 12, 2013 3:33 PM (in response to John Waller)Well John you are half right. Adobe cannot predict the future any more than you or I, So why try just make a fixed mothly fee that is a bargin for pros and doable but a stretch for evryone else. Homogonize the line so to speak. I went to Buffet in vegas that was 50 bucks more than i would spend but I went with friends. I would never select that personally. but outside the constrants of group dinning there are tons of options. With this there are less options. However the cloud is a from here on out thing where the buffet was once. For the long term I mostly cook grassfeed beef fish organic produce and no grain. if i eat out its a healthy place and for a fair price.
now as for target market adobe does not want a taget market it wants a one price fits all set up like tv or internet or phone. it wants to sell a package and for a premium.
The cloud will at first apeal to the jack of all trades master of none type.
Maybe there is the rare nancy that needs all 17 or 18 titles
-
22. Re: Is anyone on the cloud happy
John Waller Apr 12, 2013 3:44 PM (in response to 001andrew)I understand that you'd prefer a different pricing policy for the Cloud but I don't see Adobe changing what they're offering in any major way.
The cloud will at first apeal to the jack of all trades master of none type.
Maybe there is the rare nancy that needs all 17 or 18 titles
Perhaps partly true but it's equally appealing to software experts who specialize in one or two apps.
You don't need to master all titles in order to get value out of the Cloud.
To me, the Cloud appeals if you use 3 or more software titles regularly and others occasionally or not at all.
Many specialists (e.g. Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator) have joined the Cloud and still use their apps daily but now have access to many more Adobe apps than previously so they can expand their skillset.

25. Re: Is anyone on the cloud happy
001andrew Apr 12, 2013 5:39 PM (in response to John Waller)back to sqaure one john Adobe lost itss way it is out of integrity. Now who is next? PS i use more than three apps I paid to own a license that sale was framed as being able to upgrade for life. So no matter the twist on the story that should not be taken away.
Out of luck ohhh thanks
why is there luck involved there is right and wrong what Adobe is up to is bad Bussinesss. hands dowwn my version is two back were not talking OS9 or anything were talking CS4 to CS6 Trust me they are all about money and the guys like me will leave or go open source
