Insert Greek Pi Symbol (or any character) with keyboard

    razorshops Community Member

Among other non-standard characters, I especially need to insert the Greek Pi symbol into many CS5.5 documents, especially Illustrator.

I want to use the keyboard inserting these characters, rather than needing to use the several steps involved with using the Glyphs Pallet and/or cut & paste each time the character is repeated.

I cannot find a documentation explaining how to insert this Greek Pi character, and other non-standard characters.

I'm absolutely sure the many font-sets I'm using include the symbol(s) I want, but ALT+0960 does not work (produces └).  I've looked for other keystrokes, and tried zillions, but I cannot nail-down how to insert this Greek Pi symbol into CS5 documents.

I'm hoping the Adobe community can point to clear documentation explaining how to understand inserting this Greek Pi symbol, and other non-standard characters using the keyboard.

Not all fonts have pi included as a symbol; so first you must know or inspect a font to find it and a character viewer program will show you if it is there and the keyboard shortcut...may be different in different fonts

Windows includes a character viewer/map program....there are many free ones; search via google...like Babel map

And don't forget about the glyphs panel in Illy.
