2. Re: Impossible to buy software other than cloud?
David_Powers Apr 13, 2013 9:51 AM (in response to Ken Binney)As Ken says, you can buy CS6 as an individual product with a perpetual licence. No announcement has been made regarding the availability of the next version.

3. Re: Impossible to buy software other than cloud?
Missteach Apr 13, 2013 12:32 PM (in response to Ken Binney)Hello - thanks for digging into it.
However, I think you must have misunderstood what I was asking.
If I was wishing to buy Dreamweaver (or any Adobe prog - which, as I say - I'm not), then by looking at www.adobe.com it seems impossible to BUY a traditional copy of the prog simply by clicking on BUY. All I see are options to buy Cloud versions - which is not what I would want. I'd rather own it outright.
So, what I'm asking is - is it now 'virtually' impossible to buy CS6 or CS7 (when it is released) in the standard way?
Can you test it out as if you are a brand new customer?
Just courious.
Thanks

4. Re: Impossible to buy software other than cloud?
John Waller Apr 13, 2013 12:35 PM (in response to Missteach)For what it's worth, I agree with you that Adobe's website creates the very strong impression that Cloud membership or subscription is the only way to get Dreamweaver.
If you dig deeper you can find the purchase links on other pages but that won't help the uninitiated.

5. Re: Impossible to buy software other than cloud?
Ken Binney Apr 13, 2013 1:43 PM (in response to Missteach)Someone misunderstood
As I said... click on the $399 DW price - it takes you to the shoping cart for a non-cloud perpetual license

6. Re: Impossible to buy software other than cloud?
John Waller Apr 13, 2013 1:50 PM (in response to Ken Binney)Agreed Ken, although I think the point being made here is that any newbie going to http://www.adobe.com/products/dreamweaver.html can only see links to the Cloud.
By digging deeper through the buying guide they can find a purchase link for the perpetual license version.
But the most prominent call to action on the website is to join the Cloud.

7. Re: Impossible to buy software other than cloud?
Ken Binney Apr 13, 2013 2:06 PM (in response to John Waller)It sure seems manipulative, but I've long ago given up on figuring out the counter-intuitive choices Adobe makes.
Today's example - they won't let me buy a full price standalone to run on a new machine, and keep my old version available on my old machine while I learn.
Go figure

WHAT? That just doesn't make any sense. What difference does it make if you have old software on your old machine? You don't have to deactivate one to use the other.

9. Re: Impossible to buy software other than cloud?
Missteach Apr 13, 2013 2:52 PM (in response to John Waller)Hello John,
Yes - thanks for trying it out for me. I thought I was going mad and not seeing the option.
Ken - After you read my two original messages, can you let me know (and, by association people new to purchasing DW) what was the exact navigational route you took to get to it?
Thanks

10. Re: Impossible to buy software other than cloud?
Ken Binney Apr 13, 2013 3:01 PM (in response to Nancy O.)Agreed - here's today's chat:
you: Please confirm I can run two different versions on two different machines
Irvin: No, you can't run two different versions of 2 different machines.
you: May I ask why - both would be fully licensed - perpetual
Irvin: According to Adobe policy, you can't run two different versions on 2 different machines.
you: Obviously not planning to run both at the same time
Irvin: Is there anything else that may I help you with today?
you: No thanks
Irvin: You're welcome!
Irvin: Thank you for visiting Adobe.com today!

Nancy O. Apr 13, 2013 3:12 PM (in response to Ken Binney)Ken,
Obviously a misinformed associate. I have DW8 installed on 2 machines. I
also have CS6 installed on 2 machines.

Missteach Apr 14, 2013 2:08 PM (in response to Missteach)Here's a good game. Pretend you are a potential new user.
What is the lowest amount of clicks you need to get to BUY the 'full version' of Dreamweaver?
Who can do it in less than 12 clicks? I can't!

13. Re: Impossible to buy software other than cloud?
Nancy O. Apr 14, 2013 4:07 PM (in response to Missteach)I can, I can.
Go to Adobe.com
- Mouse over Products, click on Dreamweaver in the mega menu.
- Click on Buying Guide.
- Click on $399 in the comparison chart.
- Click "Add to Cart".

14. Re: Impossible to buy software other than cloud?
John Waller Apr 14, 2013 4:17 PM (in response to Nancy O.)Not sure that that would be an intuitive route for an Adobe newbie though when all they see on the initial web page is a plethora of links to the Cloud.

John, I think that is Adobe's way of saying, just buy the Cloud. I think they want to eliminate the perpetual which is unfortunate, but making it tougher to buy simply skews their numbers so that the Cloud gets the majority of new purchases. I'm thinking my CS6 Design Premium might be the last of its kind and will probably go away. I still hold out hope for a $39.99/mo permanent pricing of a smaller design suite instead of paying for video programs I'll never use.

Agreed. I got that message loud and clear from Adobe 12 months ago.
Every move they've made in 2012, and 2013 so far, says the Cloud is where almost all future engineering efforts will go (also solves the financial regulation problems for them too) and perpetuals are slowly being strategically positioned to be phased out (frog in the kettle).
There's nothing official on any of that of course but the message is there in the tea leaves.

17. Re: Impossible to buy software other than cloud?
Jon Fritz II Apr 15, 2013 6:27 AM (in response to John Waller)They have announced (I'd like to say within the last 30 days or so) that there won't be boxed software available in stores anymore, that they're moving to a download only program.
That's one, very small step away from doing a subscription only service.

Thanks,
