That was not a wise move, to exchange the Quadro K5000 for an outdated and slow Quadro 5000. Even a $ 180 GTX 660 is clearly faster.
What can cause the behaviour you see?
- Unusual codec in your source material. It has weird dimensions and is extremely compressed.
- You don't use MPE accelerated effects.
- The export settings don't use hardware MPE.
- You use only 16 GB memory and a single CPU at standard clock speed.
Try the PPBM5 Benchmark to see how your system performs. With that info you can get better insight into whether something is ill configured or not.
I agree with Harm. That Quadro 5000 is old and outdated. In fact, based on the GPU core clock speed, number of CUDA cores and the memory bandwidth, the Quadro 5000 is actually slower than even the GeForce GTX 560 (non-Ti) that's in my i7-3770K auxiliary rig. The Quadro 5000 has only 352 CUDA cores, a core clock speed of only 513MHz and a memory bandwidth of only 120 GB/s compared to the 336 CUDA cores, 810MHz core clock speed and 128 GB/s memory bandwidth of a reference GTX 560. In fact, that Quadro 5000 is slower than a Quadro K4000 (which itself is a tad slower than a GTX 650 Ti Boost).
Thank you for your reply. I will re-evaluate my GPU hardware choice, and investigate the points that you made.
>After determining that the included Quadro K5000 is NOT listed as supported by Adobe for good reason
Just how did you determine that?
Did you read about the hack? http://forums.adobe.com/thread/629557
Thanks for your reply.
I read about the hack. I tried it.
Just because you can add a GPU to a text file list doesn't mean that you'll get good results.
MPE with GPU exports failed for a 60+ minute duration work area -- the export time remaining in AME never stopped increasing faster than elapsed time.
For the scenario described above, it seems that the faster the GPU, the slower the export.
I'm beginning to think it's the source codec. It was created by GoToWebinar.
Anamorphic sequence settings have not initialized the hardware MPE correctly since 5.5. If you selected an Anamorphic preset or dropped media in to select preset then that likely is the GPU acceleration issue.
