Are you on a Mac or a PC?
Did you use one of the WMV presets?
I need to save my project as a .wmv
You can't really do that. Project files are XML and saved with the .prproj extension.
However, you can "export your sequence" to any number of formats, including WMV, by selecting the sequence and hitting CTRL+M. This calls up the Export Settings dialog, where you can specify the settings you need for your export.
Bear in mind, however, that the only way to export without losing quality is to go to a lossless format. WMV is not lossless. The quality will be degraded to some degree, though possibly not enough to bother you.
When I tried exporting the file, I selected Windows Media, and then didn't change anything else. The default Video Codec was V210, the defaulty quality was 100%, default width was 720, default height 480, default frame rate 25, field order progressive, and default aspect Square Pixels (1.0).
Would you recommend changing any of these, or selecting the options to:
Render at Maximum Depth
Use Maximum Render Quality
Use Frame Building
Sorry, I did mean that I exported the file, not saved it. What are some lossless formats you would recommend for computers with mostly Microsoft only programs?
The default Video Codec was V210
For a WMV? That's not possible. V210 only shows up as an option for AVI exports. (And even then it's not the default, you have to manually go there.)
UT is a good lossless codec. It's free and works on both Windows and Macs. It also shows up as an option under AVI (after you install it.)
Oh I'm sorry, I had selected the .avi option to see what the differences were and forgot to switch back before my last message. Here is what the actual .wmv settings were:
Frame rate: 12.5
Field order: progressive
Aspect: square pixels (1.0)
Birate encoding: VBR, 2 pass unconstrained
Average video bitrate: 400
Decoder complexity: Auto
Keyframe interval: 5 seconds
Buffer size: 1 second
I will look into UT - thank you.
