1. Re: Making B-Roll video look like the Main Video in Color Correction?
shooternz Apr 21, 2013 7:22 PM (in response to EdwurdAdam)No way to do that.
You need to sight match it from your reference.

Taverino Apr 21, 2013 7:36 PM (in response to EdwurdAdam)Try the demo version of this:

I've used it a couple of times to match footage from two different cameras. Very flexible. Well worth the $90 for me.

TomasDV Apr 22, 2013 4:48 AM (in response to Taverino)That looks like a cool tool. You will always have to go and look closely at each part of your video to make adjustments to get it looking perfect. But I can see this working great for those times when you just have no time and the end result does not have to be perfect or when the footage is simple enough for that one click to do the job.

5. Re: Making B-Roll video look like the Main Video in Color Correction?
cfg_2451 Apr 22, 2013 6:32 AM (in response to EdwurdAdam)Nope. Sorry.
There are several problems with this. First, cameras render scenes differently. Even cameras from the same manufacturer differ because of the use of different imagers, image processors, CODECs, lenses, etc. Second, light is fickle. Even if you point two cameras (same make and model) at a subject, you may well find that they don't match -- because the light is sufficiently different coming to the two different camera angles. And since video is about motion, it often envolves moving the camera which can changes the light conditions from one end of the a clip to the other. So even one camera by itself can need to be color corrected over the course of a given clip. So.... what are PPro's tools supposed to match to?
There's always going to be human judgement calls involved in color correction work. Even if we eventually go down the color managed workflows that still photography has gone down long ago. We could, for example, shoot a color chart at the beginning of each clip from each camera and try to match to that. But if you move the camera, you may well find that the color chart will look different at the end of your move because the lighting isn't the same at the end of the move. So you could correct the start point, but from there things change a little. But that would at least be a step in the right direction.
I guess what I'm saying is, curretly there's no good substitute for a calibrated production monitor, and spending the time to make the corrections clip by clip. PITA, but it is what it is.

Steven L. Gotz Apr 22, 2013 6:54 AM (in response to cfg_2451)I am not saying you are wrong. I am saying that sometimes "real close" is good enough. It depends on the project really. Shot by shot, painfully making adjustments is probably the only way to do this perfectly but if it just has to be close, an automated system might just be sufficient.
I depends on the project, the speed at which the project needs to be completed, and where the project will be viewed.
