Make a vector image out of an outline drawing?

    Level 7
      Hello, Fireworks Users,

I have a GIF which is an outline of a U.S. state. Is there possibly a way
that I can create a vector image out of it, so that I can apply fills, etc.?

      Here it is: http://67.59.131.27/nc-outline.gif

      Thanks very much in advance!

          1. If you have FW 8, select the white part in the middle of the map with
the Magic Wand tool. Once that is done, choose Select > Select Similar.

          2. With all the white parts selected, choose Select > Select Inverse,
and then Select > Convert Marquee to path.

          2. You'll find that you have created a compound path and can only fill
the outline. To convert the compound path to a simple one (or actually
two simple ones) choose Modify > Combine Paths > Split.

You now have two vector versions of the map. :-)

If you don't have FW 8, let me know and I'll send the one I just converted.

Hey Linda, thanks so much for responding. I'm sorry for not mentioning my
version; I actually don't have FW 8, just FW MX 2004.

I'm at patty at carolinawebsolutions dot com and would be thrilled for you
to send me the one you just converted.

              Patty,

There's also a bunch (vector format) already done for you here at
              Istockphoto.com:

Got it. That's perfect! I'm jazzed. Thank you so much, Linda, you're a
                peach.
