From what I have read here and elsewhere, that Sleep Mode can and has created problems during captures (assumed you are referring to DV or HDV capture firewire into Premiere Elements - any version).
My computer settings are:
Turn off the display = 15 minutes
Put computer to sleep = Never
For those settings, please refer to Control Panel/System & Security/Power Options/Select a Power Plan/Preferred Plans/Change Plan Setting (For Window 7 64 bit).
Others will probably have some first hand Premiere Elements comments to make about your situation.

3. Re: Sleep Mode
Bill Hunt Apr 25, 2013 8:58 AM (in response to TVPOA Chan3)When working with video, I turn OFF all "Sleep," "Hibernate," "Spin-down," etc. modes. I do not even use a screen-saver (not that necessary, since the days of CRT displays), as many of those modes CAN interrupt the processes, whether Capture, Rendering, Burning to Disc, or Folder, and other necessary operations. They differ OS to OS, and BIOS to BIOS - some computers will see any on-going operation, and NOT invoke such settings, where other computers do not see those on-going operations, and shut things down regardless. I do not trust those modes to be smart enough for me, do just turn them OFF.
I do the same for my anti-virus, my anti-malware, and my anti-anything programs, when editing. Of course, that means that I will NOT have any Internet presence, and no e-mail checking during the editing session, but as I am editing, I do not want those operations running. If I need to check e-mail, or browse the Internet, I do that on another computer, and not the one, that I am editing on.
Also, and probably a holdover from earlier days, when burning to DVD/BD, I leave the computer alone, and do nothing else, until that operation has completed. Many users claim that their newer computers can multi-task just fine, when burning a disc, but I still remember the creation of "coasters" when trying to multi-task, during the burning operation - though that was when a CD, or DVD burner cost US $2,000, and a 2x speed disc was still in the future.
Good luck,
Hunt
