Can you help me with a pop-up I cannot get rid of?

Hi there, I continuously get a pop-up on my screen that says "Could not find the file "swflash.ocx".  I was told to uninstall Adobe and re-install it again, but I cannot seem to do that.  When I try to uninstall it, it tells me to "close all Internet Explore pages" before I continue.  Then, when I do so, it STILL tells me to close all internet pages even though there are NO internet explorer pages open. I did go to Adobe site an reinstalled the newest version, but the pop-up simply will NOT go away.  I am going crazy.  Can anyone help me please??  Thank you so much!
