I'm currently working on a 16pp ID file which contains around 80 small images. I'm working with CS6, the Client with CS3, so I have to export as IDML, get a friend to open in CS4 and then export/save down for CS3.
When the Client working in CS3 opens the file, all of the images are grey boxes and the image names do not show up in the links panel. There is only the word 'foo' in place of every link name.
Any suggestions? Is saving down this far just a no no?....or is there a way of doing it without corrupting the image link names?
Thanks very much.
InDesign does not inheritently embed images to a file - it just links to them on a hard drive.
You would need to use File>Package and then inside the packaged folders you can save a .idml file.
You need to zip this folder up and send it to your friend. Who will then open the IDML file and export it to a .inx within that folder.
Your friend then needs to rezip the entire folder inlcuding all the links and all the indesign files and send that to you/client.
Hope that helps.
Thanks so much Eugene. Will do that now.
Make sure the CS3 user is fully patched to version 5.0.4. That "foo" makes me think there's a problem with the version.
