Weblinks DON'T require Flash. Weblinks usually work in most PDF readers on an iPad including the free Adobe Reader.
How are you creating your weblinks? What app are you viewing them in on an iPad. Make sure you include "http://" to make a valid weblink.
Hi Steve, Thanks for the answer! We have up until now created our weblinks manually by doing it in Adobe Acrobat Pro manually. Now we want InDesign to do this automatically by recognizing the field where we input the item number. We want InDesign to automatically add the weblink http://www.nsales.dk/ in front of that field so that value of the field creates the weblink. However the only way we have found to do this is adding a "button" that does this. This actually do Work on desktop computers using Windows/Adobe reader. But not on iPad. We think this is because the buttons are java/flash functionality. How this clarifies!
Unless I'm misunderstanding you, you could create a URL hyperlink within InDesign instead of a button. (Neither buttons nor hyperlinks require Flash.)
Select the text of the Item #, then choose New Hyperlink from the Hyperlinks panel (Window > Interactive > Hyperlinks).
Then choose a URL hyperlink and enter the full URL.
Hyperlinks work more reliably than buttons in PDF readers on an iPad.
Hi steve, you are not misunderstanding me per say but we want to do it automatically! Sometimes we have 4000 item numbers in our PDF catalog and it takes forever doing it manually. Thats why it needs to be Automatic weblinks that recognizes rules on a field.
It can probably be scripted. If someone doesn't answer here, ask in the InDesign scripting forum.
