Does changing the Z index help?
any chance you can post a project file? where are you adding in the triggers?
That doesn't work... the symbol still blocks all buttons placed below it after sym.$("name").deleteSymbol(); is triggered in its timeline.
have you tried re-stacking the layers in the element's panel? if you move the buttons to the top most layer.. the symbol won't block the buttons..
Yes, but when I do that the buttons appear over the symbol and I want the symbol to appear over the buttons. When the symbol slides away, however, it should disappear and stop blocking the buttons.
You definitely want to use hide() instead of deleteSymbol(). Remember that what you're doing is getting the DOM handle of the element name, so you want to use this:
Also, I noticed that when you referenced the API, you didn't have a period between sym and $ - please check to see if that's there!
if you can upload your project file to dropbox or some other hosting site.. it'll probably help us troubleshoot whatever problem you're having..
Okay. In the Elements panel on the main stage, the Symbol is called "WIPopUp". The name of the symbol in the Library is "WIPanel". So when the Symbol is triggered, it is triggered with:
"in" is a label at the 0 mark of WIPanel's timeline.
The first half of the timeline for WIPanel has it slide onto the screen. Then there is a stop trigger. The second half of the timeline slides it off of the screen. I have a button incorporated into WIPanel that when pushed does this:
This should make the symbol slide off the screen (continuing the timeline past the stop trigger in the middle).
At the end of the timeline, I'd like the symbol to disappear, so I've added a trigger with the code you mentioned above:
When I test the animation, the symbol slides onto the screen just fine, and slides away when I press the button, but it somehow continues to block me from being able to press any buttons that were below it.
I just fixed the syntax error in the above code
I still have the same issue with the buttons being blocked.
Well, it sounds like something is going on, and it might not be the symbol. Can you post your file?
I am not sure how your elements are stacked, but you could try maybe to change the z-index.
I don't think I can post my file. I tried that z-index code and nothing changed. I think I'll have to come up with a different solution.
On an unrelated note, I take it there's no way to turn a few words out of a text block into a link, right?
Of course this code needs to be attached to the proper element that may be on top of the ones you want to reach, right?
i did my best to recreate your project file.. and now understand the problem you're having.
maybe resdesign or elaine can help you out..
here's what i have: https://www.box.com/s/7b7krvqhkxahjih0cksj
hope that helps.. and i'm also looking forward to the answer!
It is probably a z-index problem. If your file sample is right, I should have it posted with corrections shortly. Rob, can you confirm that the sample from eypuff is representing your problem?
Yes, that's exactly the problem I'm having.
OK. This is working except for one little thing. The box slides out under the button. But this will give you an idea on how to solve your problem.
I placed the btn code in composition ready and left the close button in the red box.
Hope this helps.

so.. i also came up with a solution.. it's not as elegant/complex of a solution as resdesign's.. but it works.
you can see it here: https://www.box.com/s/8wzgipcpw6d17uvk06z2
hopefully one these help you..
