The big buzz is the death of the boxed photoshop versions in favor of downloading a monthly subscription service.
For you I would start a free 30 day trial of Photoshop Elelments and see if that fits your needs.
I use Photoshop for design. Would Elements fit the need? I have a lot of research to do I think.
You can still buy photoshop cs6, but it's frozen with only the features the present perpectual license version has.
You'll still get bug fixes and camera raw updates to cover new cameras.
Photoshop elements may suffice, but if your used to using things like curves, paths channels etc, then it may not be up to the task.
The subscription price for just photoshop works out to about the same as upgrading photoshop extended every two years.
