how do install just the plug-in version

my games are glitchy and slow, and noticed that when i checked on what version flash player i have, it read , just bbelow that, "plug-in version not installed". Could that be my problem and if so, how do i install just that. I couldnt find, on your web site, a download for just the plug in. Thanks
