I'm building complicated illustrator files with vector and placed images and saving them as .ai files. Then I place then into my indesign file and export
into a multiple page PDF.
Unfortunately when I view the PDF, instead of just showing one flat image of the finished file, when I flip through pages it shows every layer until it finally loads. This is a very quick thing, but it is verydistracting when showing clients a pdf and they see every layer loading instead of just the flat file.
I would prefer not exporting the ai files into a jpeg first then placing into indesign in order the flatten. Is there an easier way?
I take it you save as an AI file with the PDF Content enabled. One way would be to save as a PDF with AI editing enabled and use the Acrobat 5 level in the save dialog which doesn't allow layers. This PDF can be placed in ID and still be edited in Illustrator but will not have layers if they are important.
