I imported a list from Word into InDesign. It came in looking like a 2 column chart. Each line has a blue # symbol instead of a return symbol at the end of each line. I understand this means 'end of story'. However when I try to insert a new line by either hitting the return, or copying the line above it and pasting it after, the leading gets all messed up. And I can't change the leading to match the rest of list. Don't know if this makes any sense, but it's driving me crazzzzzzyyyyy! Was trying to strip out the # formatting and just replace it with regular returns, but it won't let me.
I think you are looking at a table, with each line in its own cell.
Sounds like it is a table. Can't tell from your screen shot though. Looks like preview mode. It would have to be in Normal mode, with edges and invisible characters showing.
Ohhhhh, ok! So instead of hitting a return and inserting a new line, as I would with a regular 2 column text box, I needed to go to Table and Insert Row.
