1. Re: Using Same video for multiple timelines?
Richard M Knight May 23, 2013 12:33 PM (in response to Soshman)You could have just the one video and timeline but with multiple sound track options..

2. Re: Using Same video for multiple timelines?
Soshman May 23, 2013 12:44 PM (in response to Richard M Knight)Thanks Richard!
Here is a bit more data and wwhere i am stuck
so the 73 minutes minute DVD actually consists of 3 different videos
2 @ 30 minutes each and one at 13 minutes
So i want to string all three together and put some nice music with it and just have it run
another video will be instruction with one of the 30 minute videos
another video will include this same 30 minute video and the 13 minute video with music and instruction
etc.
So with the same 3 videos = a 73 minute DVD there are about 8 audio variances with different mixes of video.
Each audio varience will have a different video title ( i have already exported all of them in mpeg-2 DVD)
Make sense?
Thanks,
Mark

4. Re: Using Same video for multiple timelines?
Richard M Knight May 23, 2013 1:19 PM (in response to Soshman)This is more complicated than your first post implied! With the length of material I would probable go with your first idea of a timeline for each video. To use the video more than once, import the Mpeg2s as an asset, then create new timelines for each version, then just drag the video asset into each timeline with the correct sound.

Soshman May 23, 2013 1:32 PM (in response to Richard M Knight)Well if i knew i could use the same video in multiple time lines i figured i could get it done.
Thanks for the quick reply....i will go your route
Cheers!

6. Re: Using Same video for multiple timelines?
Richard M Knight May 23, 2013 1:48 PM (in response to Soshman)I think I'm right in saying that each timeline will be recorded to disc, this will use up disc space in duplicating the videos but with the length of your material you should be ok.

Stan Jones May 23, 2013 2:46 PM (in response to Richard M Knight)with the length of your material you should be ok.
I think what he is presenting is at least 2 uses each of 30 minute A, 30 minute B, and 13 minute C, so 73 times 2, or 143 minutes.
I think there are problems if the 73 minutes of video is not used only once.
Let me think about this...

8. Re: Using Same video for multiple timelines?
Soshman May 23, 2013 3:00 PM (in response to Stan Jones)Hi Stan!
So i have one video that is 30 minutes of Machu Picchu in Peru...lots of special effects. Looks amazing
So i want to use that footage 3 times
I export it as mpeg-2 DVD and put it in as an assert
Then i make three timelines using the same footage
timeline #1 i import the asset that says Peru Commentary only by Mark... edited by...music by etc and stick it before the video
timeline #2 i use the same video...only this time i import the video asset Peru with Music only...edited by...music by ...etc.
timeline #3 I again use the same video and import video asset title Peru with Mark commentary and music...edited by...music by...etc
I actually might have 5 tracks using the Peru video when doen
I figure this way i can uise the video once and only extra storage on the DVD itself will be audio and the 14mb intro titles for each use of the Peru main video.
Looking to save maximum space as it will be tight :-)
Thanks,
Mark

The only problem is that it doesn't work that way. When you create a new timeline, there will be a vob on the actual DVD for that timeline. The video in 3 timelines will be 3 videos on disk. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Encore (any authoring program) takes demuxed streams (like the m2v you are referring to - a video only mpeg2 file - and if you don't give it demuxed streams the program creates them), and then it muxes the video and audio into the vobs that are put on disk.
The magic you are looking for is, as Richard notes, in the ability of a DVD to play different audio tracks for the same timeline.
I don't know if you can do what you want.
I would try something like the following.
One timeline per video. Add multiple audio tracks per timeline as needed. Use playlists to combine if you wish. Use navigation and "specify link" to get the right video with the right audio.
I did not realize till I saw your last post and then looked back at your original post, that you are also talking about putting different video (you can't just talk about a title and have it appear - it is video) with each timeline/video depending on what audio you are selecting. You might try adding a transition on the button that does that.

Ill give it a go and let you know how it turns out!

11. Re: Using Same video for multiple timelines?
Neil Wilkes May 24, 2013 7:17 AM (in response to Soshman)Encore will automatically create a new timeline - whicjh in turn will become a VOB - for every video clip you use. Because it is an abstraction layer tool you get no control over this at all, and it is impossible to re-use any assets without writing them to the end disc each time they are used.
If this is what you need to do AFAIK only Scenarist or Maestro can do this.
