Stan Jones May 26, 2013 5:47 AM (in response to Grabthar73)Is the audio longer than the video?
Are you playing a burned disk on a dvd player or playing a build on the computer?

Grabthar73 May 26, 2013 6:10 AM (in response to Stan Jones)Hi Stan,
The audio is the same length. It's a wedding film and right when I transition to the reception the screen just goes white, but the audio continues to play. I did the build in Encore and made the DVD. I then re-inserted the DVD into the computer to watch it. The same happens in a DVD player.

3. Re: DVD goes white during playback
Grabthar73 May 26, 2013 6:12 AM (in response to Grabthar73)Actually, the same happens to the Trailer I made for the film as well. At the very end the screen goes white while the audio continues. The point that it happens in the Trailer is when I dissolve to the end title. In the full film, it happens at a point where I sped up the footage right before slowing it back to normal speed. I don't know if those effects would have some sort of impact on Encore. The film is fully rendered before I send it to Encore through Dynamic Link.

4. Re: DVD goes white during playback
Stan Jones May 26, 2013 6:33 AM (in response to Grabthar73)Very odd. First step as a test with dynamic link issues is to export from Premiere as MPEG2-DVD. Do you see the problem in that export before bringing it into Encore? Skipping DL is a common preference for many users.
Are you downrezzing from HD?

Grabthar73 May 26, 2013 6:45 AM (in response to Stan Jones)I'll try your suggestion of exporting from Premiere and get back to you. And I am doing a SD DVD, not Bluray. Can you tell me why skipping DL is a preference? Thanks Stan!

To be clear, my question about downrezzing is because users using HD material and downrezzing to make a DVD are more likely to have dynamic link issues. Which is answer one to you next question...
Can you tell me why skipping DL is a preference?
Reason #1 above. Some users have alternate workflows where they use third party tools for exporting. Encore/Premiere has not been the best tool for getting good quality. It has improved. How much, and whether it works for a particular purpose is a matter of opinion.

Grabthar73 May 26, 2013 7:05 AM (in response to Stan Jones)Ah, ok. I'm outputting as an MPEG-2 DVD right now. I'll use Toast to make the DVD after and see if I have the same problem and let you know. I have CS5.5 just for your info. Not sure if this has been a common problem with this version. Too bad. This is the first problem I've had using Premiere so far. But if it works using Toast then it's not that big of a deal. Thanks Stan! I'll let you know what happens.

8. Re: DVD goes white during playback
Grabthar73 May 26, 2013 7:20 AM (in response to Grabthar73)Or would it be better to output it as MPEG-2 DVD then import it into Encore? Is it just the DL that's causing the problem?

John T Smith May 26, 2013 7:53 AM (in response to Grabthar73)I never use DL because I have read of problems... I have NO idea if these links I've saved about DL problems cover your specific problem, but it can't hurt to read to maybe get some new ideas

Yes, that is the test I was proposing. Of course, play the m2v before import to see if it goes white!

Encore has never been the best "burner." Many of us on the PC side use imgburn instead. I have no idea how Encore burns beyond CS3!
But there is no reason, based on your results so far, not to use Encore to author. It may work great for you.
Think of 3 separate stages:
1) Exporting from Premiere, another application, or using dynamic link. The huge advantage when DL works is that you can move back and forth between your Premiere project and Encore without having exported first. Also, you can use the "automatic" transcode setting to max quality. When exporting from other apps, you must get the export to DVD specs and you must transcode to the correct bitrates to max quality on your disk. You can also export a lossless intermediate and bring that into Encore for the transcoding to be done there.
2) Authoring in Encore - menus, navigation, etc. You can import the assets from any export system or dynamic link. But Encore (being build on the sonic/roxio authorcore) is very picky about assets being to DVD spec, and will retranscode anything that isn't.
3) Burning. Encore has the options, but you can also build to an iso image or DVD folder, and use that to burn in another app.

Grabthar73 May 29, 2013 8:01 AM (in response to Stan Jones)Well, exporting as a MPEG-2 DVD to Encore worked perfectly. Thanks for all the help!
