I would like to charge customers 50 percent of the full price of a product up front, then the remaining 50 percent upon shipment. Has anyone found a way to do this with Business Catalyst?

Not really something you can do in BC properly is part payments.

I have a similar problem. I have a payment form and the form itself allows users to enter a partial payment.  BC actually accepts the payment and applies the partial payment to the invoice. But it seems BC only accepts ONE payment per invoice.  If a user actually enters a partial payment, then later tries to enter another payment for the same invoice number, BC will accept the payment but it's not applied to the invoice. Allowing partial payments would be an awesome feature if BC could implement this.  It's not that far off. BC does allow users to enter partial payments already.  But if users can only make one payment per invoice, it would be great if BC could either add some validation functions to block users from entering partial payments or, better yet, fix BC so that it will apply multiple payments per invoice.

Since BC does not support partial payments... The best way I found to do this is...

1 - Create a discount code for the value you intend to do lets say 50% off the total value.

2 - Create the order and add the discount created (50%) and save.

3 - if you process the order using a virtual terminal add the payment using the options "Offline Payment" or if allowing customer to pay for it from their account via card processing.

4 - After 50% is paid, click edit the order and remove the applied 50% and SAVE, the order will balance 50% outstanding from the total that can still be paid.

this method will not work for some card processing due registration of the transaction, it will se as a duplicate payment and will not process.

Have a go!
