my version doesnt have this option.
Which version are you running?
What does it say in Help > About Photoshop (or Photoshop > About Photoshop)?
version 13.1.2 x64 running on macbook pro
Same here (on Windows 8).
Which option are you not finding? What exact steps do the tutorials give you?
Got a link or two to the tutorials you're trying to follow?
ok so this is the link for the tutorial http://www.photoshopessentials.com/photo-editing/crop-image-cs6/ under the sub heading choosing an aspect ratio you can see the drop down menu as they see it. whereas this image is of how i see it.
This is the classic Photoshop instructor's nightmare. There are subtle differences between Cloud (13.1.x) and non-Cloud (13.0.x) versions of Photoshop CS6.
The tutorial screenshot is from Photoshop CS6 (13.0.x).
The screenshot from your system is from the Cloud-only CS6.1 (13.1 update) where Adobe tweaked the crop tool, including the dropdown menu.
cheers john, perfect
John, are there already differences? I thought 13.1 was mainly about retina display support, but I guess there would also be other fixes released while they were at it. I believe Photoshop cc will make the image size options more accessible with the crop tool, because a lot of people complained they couldn't find the panel. To be fair, it was not the most intuitive of things to find.

Yes, definitely already differences. I sympathize with Photoshop instructors (online and offline).
The headline change was Retina support but that was also made available to non-Cloud versions.
Other Cloud-only changes in 13.1 are listed here
Non-Cloud CS6 users have been very vocal and disgruntled about some of these changes.
