Resources for eLearning - outdated but useful?

    Rick Henderson Community Member

I am finding that any resources for creating eLearning using Dreamweaver to be outdated. Dreamweaver CS6 Classroom in A Book doesn't cover elearning, and a search on Adobe Press returns books from 2006 relating to DW 3 or old Macromedia products. Searching for "elearning" or "coursebuilder" return no results!

Playing with the Coursebuilder templates in Elearning CS6 it seems that the material and design is quite dated. Has it even been updated since 2006? Would buying old books still be worth it?

I'm kind of disappointed with how behind the times some of the software appears. Why is it that after all these years, I can't even resize the File > Open dialog box?

So if anyone has useful resources for using ELearning Suite, please let me know.

Otherwise, I would recommend people switch to a different product. I probably can't name it here in the forum but message me if you are interested (no, this isn't spam, just trying not to break the rules).

Dreamweaver's Knowledge Objects (ancient history name alongside Course Builder) have never been the greatest. I'm not sure that the last update to them was as long ago as 2006. Might be more like 2009 or 2010.

The main eLearning tools that Adobe truly maintains are Captivate and Presenter. The Dreamweaver and Flash eLearning extensions have never, IMHO, been of any great value.

As for resources, what exactly are you planning to acheive? General laments are hard to respond to.

Thanks for your response Steve. The simple comment about Adobe maintaining Captivate and Presenter is pretty much what I was looking for since I don't really have an awareness into Adobe's direction or strategy.

I've used Captivate off and on for a long time and I'm looking at working with it more in-depth in the future, just wanted to make sure I wasn't wasting my time.

I was interested in Adobe Presenter and I wonder why it isn't part of the eLearning Suite? Maybe it is aimed more at the people who just need that small subset of tools... it would probably server for most of my needs.

[Edit: I have since learned Adobe Presenter is part of eLearning Suite, but I just don't know why it didn't install on my version.. I just have the Video creator. I'll look into it. Now I learn it's just a plug-in for PowerPoint. Useful to know that ahead of time.]

            Thanks,

            -Rick

Hey Rick, could you email me with the link that you mentioned in this old post. I'm also interested in developing elearing content for my business.

              Regards,
