1. Re: Unable to play back video in Encore
Stan Jones Jun 10, 2013 6:44 AM (in response to Howard Hoffman)Two issues I would look at: performance and permissions.
Performance, meaning hard drive issues (defrag; too full; etc). Permissions, meaning try creating a new admin user, etc.

Howard Hoffman Jun 10, 2013 4:18 PM (in response to Stan Jones)The same video plays fine in various player and in Premiere. So I don't think there is any issue with access.
The play back is not choppy. The video does not move a single frame. Audio plays along.

That can all be true and running as administrator and the like my "fix" it. Encore has different requirements for reasons we don't always understand.
Are you running "as administrator"?

Similar to the above; no movement at all does not mean that there is not a performance issue. I would agree that it points to different issues than choppy playback.

4. Re: Unable to play back video in Encore
Howard Hoffman Jun 10, 2013 5:39 PM (in response to Stan Jones)I normally don't run it as Admin. Thought it's only needed to write disc. Just tried it, same behavior whether it's admin or not.
Opening an existing project, even the one I just closed, takes over a min with a lot of disc activity.
First, video play back works. However, as I page-down the chapters, it became choppy around 30 min mark. Past 45 min, video freeze.
The CPU usage is not high and Encore appears to use a single core. Memory peaks at 4 GB and remains roughly constant around 1 GB
