2. Re: Camera raw slow tiff save
Monstrik Jun 10, 2013 2:10 PM (in response to Curt Y)Hey Curt, thank you for responding. Im not sure if i understand your question. The original files (raw) are on the same SSD (Samsung 840 pro) I save them for further processing in Photoshop..

3. Re: Camera raw slow tiff save
Curt Y Jun 10, 2013 2:13 PM (in response to Monstrik)The processing has to travel through the processor. So if using external drive it has some X factor limit of data transfer. USB is realtivly slow compared the eStata3.

4. Re: Camera raw slow tiff save
Monstrik Jun 10, 2013 2:20 PM (in response to Curt Y)Oh yes SSD is internal, connected to SATA3 (6GB/s). I did speed tests of my SSD. It does its job - writes at 530MB/s, but not when using camera raw. It's really annoying

6. Re: Camera raw slow tiff save
station_two Jun 11, 2013 12:56 AM (in response to Monstrik)Is it perhaps the TIFF compression that is causing the delay you perceive?
I can't imagine myself complaining about a 2-second delay when saving a 100 MB file. I've just never seen that kind of fast performance with my equipment, which does not yet include any SSDs.
I do however find that TIFFs and DNGs do take a long time to save and to open compared to uncompressed PSDs. (I know I'll get flak from some quarters for saying this, but I've never been able to defeat that issue.) On the other hand, I can't promise you that you'll be able to save a 100 MB PSD in less than two seconds.

7. Re: Camera raw slow tiff save
Monstrik Jun 11, 2013 3:14 AM (in response to station_two)Ok now i subsistuted tiff for Jpg... Camera raw takes as long as saving tiffs. how is it posssible? Jpg uses 6MB of space... camera raw takes 2 seconds to write a 6MB file? It means that file size doesnt matter... But what could be wrong?

8. Re: Camera raw slow tiff save
Curt Y Jun 11, 2013 7:29 AM (in response to Monstrik)Try turning off the anti-virus. Perhaps save is asking if file OK.

9. Re: Camera raw slow tiff save
Monstrik Jun 11, 2013 9:40 AM (in response to Curt Y)Curt thanks. I did, but it made no difference. Is it possible that this sluggish speed works as default and despite my fast PC it cannot go faster because thats how adobe wrote camera raw?

10. Re: Camera raw slow tiff save
Curt Y Jun 11, 2013 9:44 AM (in response to Monstrik)What is the difference in speed if you save in Photoshop and if you save the exact image and edits in ACR?

11. Re: Camera raw slow tiff save
Noel Carboni Jun 11, 2013 9:47 AM (in response to Monstrik)What you're seeing is probably normal - Camera Raw does take a few seconds to process a raw file, even on a powerful system. It can grow to be longer if you select a lot of features in Camera Raw, such as noise reduction, sharpening, etc.
And, it's getting slower in general as Camera Raw becomes more feature-rich.
That reminds me, With version 8.1 I need to do some more benchmarks and add them to this thread:
