For Adobe Reader XI, I change the below mentioned registry key
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe" /A "navpanes=0" "%1"
Worked like a charm!
For me that works well but only when opening a document from outside Reader (say from File Explorer), when I open from inside Reader the navpane is displayed.
Using regedit in windows 8 under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AcroExch.Document.11\ I'm only showing "(Default)", "BrowseInPlace", and "EditFlags". There is no "shell\Read\command". Is there a different registry key I should edit in Windows 8?
Thanks for the help!

Thanks Deepak for helping me getting rid of the annoying navigation panel which take up so much valuable space on screen.
I found how to hide the Navigator Panel in Acrobat XI.
to read "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 11.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe" /A "navpanes=0" "%1"
I wish Adobe would make this an easy option.
